MR MARFACH began only fairly. Shortly after the start, DREAM PARTNER was steadied away from the heels of HEY CHEERS which shifted in after being bumped by RAINBOW SEEKER. Also shortly after the start, TELECOM CHIEF was steadied away from the heels of PUBIC FIGURE which shifted in after bumping EASY GOLD. From a wide barrier, EASY GOLD was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, CLEMENT SPIRIT failed to muster speed. Approaching and passing the 1400 Metres, IDYLLIC WIND got its head up on a number of occasions when proving difficult to settle. Approaching the 1400 Metres, HEY CHEERS was steadied away from the heels of ALL MY KINGDOMS. Near the 750 Metres, MAN AND MING got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of HEY CHEERS. ALL MY KINGDOMS was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight and near the 250 Metres became unbalanced after getting its head on the side, shifting out and bumping SMART GUY on a number of occasions. In this incident, SMART GUY also became unbalanced. Passing the 250 Metres, FUEL ME UP was brushed by ALL MY KINGDOMS which shifted out to obtain clear running. A short distance later, FUEL ME UP was checked when crowded for room between ALL MY KINGDOMS and SMART GUY (N Callan) which shifted in. As the Stewards were satisfied that N Callan had immediately attempted to correct SMART GUY when it shifted in after being struck on one occasion with the whip, no further action was taken. However, N Callan was advised to make every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground and causing interference in future. For the majority of the race, PUBLIC FIGURE travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. N Callan was spoken to regarding him having raised his whip arm above the height of his shoulder. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that FUEL ME UP had bled from both nostrils. A veterinary inspection of IDYLLIC WIND immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. HEY CHEERS and ALL MY KINGDOMS were sent for sampling.
