As the start was effected, VIVA GUY put its head down to the left and consequently lost ground. Before being allowed to race again, VIVA GUY will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. YEUNG SING began only fairly. CARTOON FAY FAY began very awkwardly and shifted out abruptly, resulting in SUPER HORSE being badly crowded for room and taken out onto NAVEL ORANGE which became unbalanced. After this, NAVEL ORANGE was taken across behind runners. Near the 1500 Metres, RIO WILLIE momentarily raced tight between THANKSGIVING and JACK’S GEM which shifted in. Passing the 800 Metres, SURROUNDED shifted out when awkwardly placed close to the heels of CARTOON FAY FAY which was being steadied away from the heels of YEUNG SING. Shortly after this, VIVA GUY momentarily improved into tight running inside SURROUNDED and then was steadied when SURROUNDED shifted back in when racing tight inside SUPER HORSE. Approaching the 100 Metres, N Pinna (FLORAL MAN) was obliged to stop riding and straighten his mount when it shifted in and inconvenienced THANKSGIVING. N Pinna pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that inside the final 100 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of THANKSGIVING, causing that horse to be taken in and hampered inside FLORAL MAN. Because of this, THANKSGIVING was not able to be tested in the run to the finishing line. N Pinna was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday, 4 November 2013 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting on Wednesday, 23 October 2013. Throughout the race, RIO WILLIE travelled wide and without cover. A Suborics (YEUNG SING) was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race where circumstances permit. A veterinary inspection of RIO WILLIE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. JACK’S GEM, DASHING SUPER and FOREVER AHEAD were sent for sampling.
