GLOBAL FAME was slow to begin and shortly after the start was bumped by SHANTARAAM which shifted in. NAVEL ORANGE was crowded for room at the start between VIVA GUY and PRECISION ERA, both of which shifted ground. From a wide barrier, MALAYAN PEARL was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Passing the 1300 Metres, KING HARADASUN became unbalanced and shifted out after bumping with NAVEL ORANGE which shifted out. Near the 1100 Metres, FUNNY FORTUNE commenced to prove very difficult to settle and was checked away from the heels of GAIN MORE. Near the 100 Metres, MALAYAN PEARL shifted in under pressure. For the majority of the race, KING HARADASUN travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, W C Marwing stated that he had been instructed to ride PRECISION ERA in a forward position as the horse is somewhat one-paced. He said in the early stages he looked to shift in to obtain a position with cover behind SHANTARAAM, however, SPURS ON maintained its position to his inside and therefore he was not able to shift in. He said after being left racing three wide without cover, he allowed his mount to stride forward after the 1200 Metres with a view to taking up the lead if possible. He said after shifting in to race outside PERFECT MOMENT, that horse continued to maintain its position to his inside and therefore he elected to remain racing to the outside of that horse. He added after the 900 Metres PRECISION ERA, whilst not over-racing, commenced to travel keenly and he attempted to steady the horse, however, it continued to travel keenly. A veterinary inspection of KING HARADASUN immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse’s trachea. JACK’S GEM and PERFECT MOMENT were sent for sampling.
