Just prior to the start being effected, WINDICATOR STAR became fractious and as the gates were released lost ground. TAI SING YEH also began awkwardly at the start. This resulted in both WINDICATOR STAR and TAI SING YEH being very slow to begin. CHOICE TREASURE shifted out at the start and bumped LONDON CHINA TOWN which became unbalanced. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, REGENCY LUCK failed to muster speed. When left racing very wide making the first turn near the 1000 Metres, SHAHJEE was steadied and shifted in to obtain cover behind SUPER PLUS. Near the 850 Metres, MILITARY SECRET was bumped by CHOICE TREASURE which shifted out. Making the turn after the 600 Metres, GETAWAY GUY got its head on the side, shifted in and became unbalanced. Near the 500 Metres, ABLE SPEED raced tight between NEW DEERFIELD and GETAWAY GUY which got its head on the side and shifted out when making the turn awkwardly. GETAWAY GUY shifted out rounding the Home Turn and was awkwardly placed inside the heels of ABLE SPEED. Approaching the 200 Metres, MILITARY SECRET was directed out away from the heels of HAPPY YEAH YEAH which shifted out. Throughout the race, SUPER PLUS travelled wide and without cover. After the race, G Mossé reported that REGENCY LUCK did not feel comfortable in its action throughout the race. A veterinary inspection of REGENCY LUCK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ABLE SPEED, T Berry stated that his mount did not travel well in the early stages and he had to ride it along after the 800 Metres to ensure it was able to maintain its position. He said after this ABLE SPEED travelled only fairly, however, in the early part of the Straight appeared as if it was going to respond to his riding. He said however that after the 200 Metres ABLE SPEED shortened stride and did not finish off its race. He added, in his opinion, ABLE SPEED was not suited by the track surface tonight as it appeared to him that the horse would not let down on the surface. A veterinary inspection of ABLE SPEED immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, ABLE SPEED will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ABLE SPEED, MILITARY SECRET and NEW DEERFIELD were sent for sampling.
