From wide barriers, MOBILE KING and AMBASSADORSHIP were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Near the 1300 Metres, AFRICA LIGHT was momentarily crowded for room inside PANTHER RUN which itself was racing tight inside LET’S GOAL. Near the 400 Metres, OPTIMIZATION STAR was shifted to the inside of COMPACT YARN to find clear running after being momentarily awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse. PANTHER RUN had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight. Near the 300 Metres, LET’S GOAL was hampered when crowded for room inside MOBILE KING (G Mossé) which shifted in. G Mossé was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in future. After this incident, MOBILE KING continued to lay in under pressure. Near the 150 Metres, PANTHER RUN momentarily raced in restricted room between SUPER STRIKE and MOBILE KING. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of LET’S GOAL, D Whyte stated that although he attempted to obtain a forward position, LET’S GOAL did not show any early speed despite being ridden along. He said LET’S GOAL did not travel comfortably at any stage and although hampered near the 300 Metres was most disappointing in its failure to run on in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of LET’S GOAL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of AFRICA LIGHT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. LET’S GOAL, SUPER STRIKE and MOBILE KING were sent for sampling.
