BECAUSE OF YOU’s entrance to the track was delayed due to that horse requiring replating after casting its left hind plate after leaving the Parade Ring. On arrival at the Start, BECAUSE OF YOU was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race. The start was delayed when FANTASY JEWELLERY proved very difficult to load. Before being allowed to race again, FANTASY JEWELLERY will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. After being loaded, GOLDEN DEER became fractious. Before being allowed to race again, GOLDEN DEER will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. GOLDEN DEER and FANTASY JEWELLERY bumped at the start. Passing the 800 Metres, KYNAM raced tight outside YOU READ MY MIND. Then near the 500 Metres, KYNAM became unbalanced when briefly crowded for room outside YOU READ MY MIND. After the 400 Metres, GOLDEN DEER got its head on the side and lay out under pressure, requiring its rider, T H So, to stop riding and straighten the horse on a number of occasions. When questioned regarding the performance of YOU READ MY MIND, B Prebble stated that his mount began very well and travelled strongly in the early stages. He said after the 500 Metres YOU READ MY MIND, whilst still travelling on the bridle, commenced to get its head on the side and was inclined to lay in. He said then near the 400 Metres KYNAM commenced to improve its position to his outside and he was obliged to ride YOU READ MY MIND along. He added as soon as he did this YOU READ MY MIND again got its head on the side and proved very difficult to ride. He said whilst he was not able to detect any soreness with YOU READ MY MIND, the horse’s action did not feel as it did when he rode it in a recent barrier trial. A veterinary inspection of YOU READ MY MIND immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of ONE MORE KNIGHT immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. YOU READ MY MIND, KYNAM and BECAUSE OF YOU were sent for sampling.
