After being loaded, RAINBOW FIGHTER reared and momentarily got its left front leg over the adjoining stall, resulting in T Angland, its rider, being dislodged. MONEYMAKER, which was in the adjoining stall, then became very fractious and kicked out repeatedly. Both RAINBOW FIGHTER and MONEYMAKER were removed from the barrier stalls and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said, in his opinion, RAINBOW FIGHTER was suitable to race while MONEYMAKER was not suitable to race after he found the horse to have sustained lacerations to both hind legs. Acting on this advice, MONEYMAKER was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, RAINBOW FIGHTER will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. Also before being allowed to race again, MONEYMAKER will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When being reloaded, THE PEAK proved very difficult to load, resulting in the start being further delayed. Before being allowed to race again, THE PEAK will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. From an outside barrier, CHOIR was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. After the 200 Metres, SHANTARAAM was checked away from the heels of TARREGA when momentarily held up for clear running. For the majority of the race, THE PEAK travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, C Y Ho (SPEEDYGONZALEZ) stated that although it was available to him to improve his position and follow LUCKY WARRIOR after the 700 Metres, he was reluctant to do so as he was of the opinion if he attempted to improve at this time, then RAINBOW FIGHTER would shift out into the position behind LUCKY WARRIOR, this would result in SPEEDYGONZALEZ, which was having its first start in Hong Kong today, being taken into a four wide position without cover. He said therefore he elected to continue to race to the outside and behind RAINBOW FIGHTER and after being taken out by that horse rounding the Home Turn, he placed SPEEDYGONZALEZ under full pressure at the entrance to the Straight and the horse closed off the race well. A veterinary inspection of APOLLO CAVALIER after the race did not show any significant findings. MR GINGER, THE PEAK and SUDDEN THUNDER were sent for sampling.
