PACKING DE LAGO was slow to begin.From a wide barrier, MAKE A FORTUNE was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.Shortly after the start, JACKTHELAD was crowded for room between DAPPER BOY and BRILLIANT LIGHT which shifted out.Near the 900 Metres, KING HARADASUN was momentarily awkwardly placed close to the heels of HOW SPEEDY which shifted in when barely clear.After the 700 Metres, DAPPER BOY became badly unbalanced when crowded for room between INVICTUS and DEMON DEMON, both of which shifted marginal ground.Near the 400 Metres, NOBODY BUT YOU was steadied away from the heels of PACKING DE LAGO.Near the 200 Metres, NOBODY BUT YOU shifted out and bumped PACKING DE LAGO, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. A short distance later, PACKING DE LAGO was steadied away from the heels of NOBODY BUT YOU which was shifted to the outside of DAPPER BOY to improve.Near the 100 Metres, JACKTHELAD, which had its head on the side and was laying in, was shifted in away from the heels of FANTASY AND GOLD.Over the concluding stages, HOW SPEEDY shifted in under pressure, resulting in DANEWIN TIGER being inconvenienced.Also over the concluding stages, JACKTHELAD was awkwardly placed between FANTASY AND GOLD and DAPPER BOY.Throughout the race, INVICTUS travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground.When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of DAPPER BOY, W C Marwing stated that after beginning well, he was able to obtain a forward position which had been hoped given that the race was not anticipated to be run at a quick tempo. He said DAPPER BOY was obliged to race three wide and without cover throughout the race due to DEMON DEMON not having obtained the position on the rail behind LITTLE COW. He said although DAPPER BOY was crowded for room at the 700 Metres, he did not consider this was an excuse for the horse performance as it quickly came under pressure rounding the Home Turn and was disappointing in its failure to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of DAPPER BOY after the race did not show any significant findings other than the horse had sustained a small wound to the outside of the left hind cannon.DAPPER BOY, LITTLE COW and HOW SPEEDY were sent for sampling. <29/10/2012 Additional Veterinary Report >DAPPER BOY, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings other than the horse had sustained a small wound to the outside of the left hind cannon. DAPPER BOY was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer D J Hall this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, DAPPER BOY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
