RAINBOW FIGHTER and COMMON GOAL were slow to begin. From the outside barrier, ORACLE was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. BEST WIN got its head up on a number of occasions in the early stages. C K Tong (BET ON ME) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 1000 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of GLORY HORSIE, causing that horse to be checked away from the heels of BET ON ME and lose the running to which it was rightfully entitled. C K Tong was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Tuesday, 2 October 2012 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday, 23 September 2012. Near the 850 Metres, UWILLBEGLORIOUS was checked away from the heels of EASY TO RICH. Rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight, UWILLBEGLORIOUS was held up for clear running. Near the 200 Metres, RAINBOW FIGHTER had some difficulty obtaining clear running. Over the concluding stages, RAINBOW FIGHTER was held up for clear running behind GLORY HORSIE. Because of this, RAINBOW FIGHTER was not able to be ridden out to the end of the race. Throughout the race, HAPPY GOAL travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding his riding of ALL VICTORY, T Angland stated that he had been instructed to have the horse racing where it was comfortable but endeavour to obtain cover if possible. He said after beginning well on ALL VICTORY, he steadied the horse with a view to obtaining cover behind GLORY HORSIE if possible. He said however that a number of runners improved their positions underneath ALL VICTORY and for this reason he was caught wide in the early stages. He said after the 1000 Metres he allowed HAPPY GOAL to cross ALL VICTORY in the hope that that horse would be left racing wide outside GLORY HORSIE which would allow ALL VICTORY to obtain cover. He said however that at this time he was left racing in a four wide position and despite HAPPY GOAL continuing to race wide, he was not able to obtain cover on ALL VICTORY. T Angland conceded that in retrospect he had erred in not being more assertive on ALL VICTORY in the early stages after the horse began best, however, he was mindful of the fact that he had been instructed to attempt to obtain cover if possible. T Angland was advised that his riding of ALL VICTORY on this occasion fell short of what was expected of a senior rider in Hong Kong. He was further advised that he must ride his mounts in such a manner so as to ensure they do not cover unnecessary ground wherever possible. COSTA DEL SOL and GLORY HORSIE were sent for sampling.
