From wide barriers, MOCHI and FRESH AIR were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Shortly after the start, KICK SERVE was steadied away from the heels of LUCKY TURBO which shifted in after being bumped by BENEFACTOR. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, SHAHJEE failed to muster speed and raced back in the field. After the 1000 Metres, LUCKY TURBO proved difficult to settle when being steadied. After the 700 Metres, ALL FRIENDS was left racing wide and without cover. Approaching the 400 Metres, VINTAGE HUSSLER got its head on the side and lay out. Passing the 300 Metres, PERFECT GEAR was steadied when being shifted to the outside of DANEWIN WINNING to obtain clear running. Passing the 200 Metres, DANEWIN WINNING was shifted out away from the heels of DR SUPER which shifted ground. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of DR SUPER, J Lloyd stated that he had to make use of his mount to obtain a forward position as instructed. He said making the first turn he was left racing three wide outside BENEFACTOR and LUCKY TURBO and was only able to shift in to a position one horse off the fence after the 800 Metres when BENEFACTOR was able to clear LUCKY TURBO. He said after making the turn passing the 600 Metres, DR SUPER became unbalanced in its action and after the 400 Metres came under pressure. He said in the Straight DR SUPER shifted ground and again became unbalanced in its action after the 200 Metres and weakened out of the race. He did say that on pulling up DR SUPER made a breathing noise, however, this is not unusual as the horse had made a similar noise previously after being successful in its races. He added that having in mind the manner in which DR SUPER travelled tonight, he is of the opinion that the horse may be better when racing on the rail, however, this was not available to him due to the circumstances of the race. A veterinary inspection of DR SUPER after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of DR SUPER, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, DR SUPER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of FRESH AIR, W C Marwing stated that he had ridden the horse in some of its track work in the lead up to tonight’s race and, in his opinion, that work was good. He said FRESH AIR did not travel well and he was obliged to niggle at the horse throughout the race in an endeavour to have it travel more genuinely. He said after being placed under pressure, FRESH AIR did not respond to his riding and was disappointing. He did say that after the race FRESH AIR coughed when being pulled up. A veterinary inspection of FRESH AIR after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of FRESH AIR, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FRESH AIR will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of DANEWIN WINNING after the race did not show any significant findings. KICK SERVE and SEA THE PEARLS were sent for sampling.
