CAPITAL K and ELEGANCE KLAMMER bumped shortly after the start. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, SOLAR UP shifted in and bumped the running rail of its own accord. Near the 1200 Metres, HEALTHY BLUEBERRY was steadied when crowded for room between SLICK BULLET and SOLAR UP which shifted out away from the heels of I SMELL MONEY when proving difficult to settle. After this, SOLAR UP got its head up when continuing to prove difficult to settle. Approaching the 1200 Metres, CAPITAL K commenced to over-race and despite the efforts of its rider improved inside the heels of ELEGANCE KLAMMER where there was insufficient room. As a result of this, FLYING CHINA, which was racing inside CAPITAL K, was badly crowded for room. When CAPITAL K was checked out away from the heels of ELEGANCE KLAMMER, LOMBARDI was bumped and taken out onto CHATER D’CAT, resulting in both those horses being hampered. As there was no rider error associated with this incident, no further action was taken. For the majority of the race, JOLLY GOOD travelled wide and without cover and near the 700 Metres was taken wider when HEALTHY BLUEBERRY shifted out from behind SLICK BULLET. C K Tong pleaded guilty to a breach of Rule 100(2) in that he failed to ride SLICK BULLET, 6th placegetter, out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards. For this offence, C K Tong was fined the sum of $20,000. When questioned, M Chadwick stated that after being loaded BEAUTY SUCCESS attempted to sit down. He said as the start was effected BEAUTY SUCCESS was slow to begin and then despite being ridden along in the early stages lost a considerable ground. He said he continued to ride BEAUTY SUCCESS throughout the race, however, the horse did not improve its position and did not stretch out properly at any stage of the race. He added BEAUTY SUCCESS had performed similarly in the past, however, in those races it had made ground in the Straight. He said tonight despite his riding, BEAUTY SUCCESS did not improve its position at any stage and finished a considerable margin from the remainder of the field. A veterinary inspection of BEAUTY SUCCESS after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of BEAUTY SUCCESS was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, BEAUTY SUCCESS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that JOLLY GOOD had lost its left front plate. A veterinary inspection of ELEGANCE KLAMMER and CAPITAL K after the race did not show any significant findings. LEO’S PRIDE, I SMELL MONEY and HEALTHY BLUEBERRY were sent for sampling.
