After being loaded, PHANTOM PHILIP became fractious, reared and momentarily sat down, resulting in its rider, C K Tong, being dislodged. PHANTOM PHILIP was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. C K Tong was passed fit to fulfil the riding engagement. Before being allowed to race again, PHANTOM PHILIP will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. DIAMOND KNIGHT blundered at the start. GALLANT MAMBO was slow to begin and shortly after the start was checked away from the heels of STERLING CITY which shifted out after being bumped by GOOD SMILE. MERACUS and SILENT DEMAND bumped shortly after the start. After the 600 Metres, GOOD SMILE was steadied away from the heels of DIAMOND KNIGHT which was taken in by DAPPER BOY. Over the final 400 Metres, DAPPER BOY got its head on the side and lay in. The performance of GOOD SMILE, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, GOOD SMILE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. C K Tong said that shortly after the start his left foot slipped out of the stirrup iron, resulting in him becoming badly unbalanced and being dislodged. STERLING CITY and EXPEDIENCE were sent for sampling.
