On arrival at the Start, it was noted that ZEZAO had lost its left front plate. This plate was refitted. ZEZAO was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that ZEZAO had again lost its left front plate. VIVA DOLPHIN and YOUNG SUPREME began awkwardly and lost ground at the start. After being slow to begin, WINNER SMART lost further ground at the start when crowded for room between ZEZAO and LOTS OF FUN which jumped in. At the 700 Metres, ZEZAO got its head up and was checked away from the heels of LOTS OF FUN (M L Yeung) which shifted in. M L Yeung was reprimanded and advised to make more effort to keep his mounts on a straight course. From the 500 Metres until passing the 200 Metres, ZEZAO was badly held up and unable to improve. Over the concluding stages, RACING LEGEND hung out under pressure, obliging its rider, B Prebble, to stop riding and straighten just prior to the winning post. VICTORY GENERAL and ZEZAO were sent for sampling.
