SUN SPEEDY began very awkwardly and got its head up, resulting in B Prebble becoming unbalanced in the saddle. Because of this, SUN SPEEDY lost ground. Shortly after the start, WIND DAMPER shifted out and bumped HOT PEPPER. MAKE IT, which was racing outside HOT PEPPER, was steadied away from the heels of that horse. From the outside barrier, TEAM WORK was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Making the turn after the 1000 Metres, WIND DAMPER commenced to over-race and for some distance after this got its head up on a number of occasions when racing ungenerously. Near the 900 Metres, TEAM WORK shifted out away from the heels of DARK SECRET when travelling keenly. Near the 700 Metres and again approaching the 600 Metres, HOT PEPPER was checked out away from the heels of WIND DAMPER which continued to race ungenerously. Passing the 700 Metres, MAKE IT was momentarily crowded for room inside GOOD HONG KONG which shifted in marginally. Near the 500 Metres, SUN SPEEDY was crowded for room inside DARK SECRET which shifted in when awkwardly placed close to the heels of GOOD HONG KONG. Passing the 300 Metres, GOOD HONG KONG (D Beadman) got its head on the side and lay out and then after the 200 Metres shifted out, resulting in HOT PEPPER being steadied away from the heels of GOOD HONG KONG. D Beadman was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Near the 150 Metres, TRUE VALOUR was awkwardly placed inside the heels of DIAMOND RAINBOW. Over the concluding stages, WIND DAMPER was awkwardly placed inside the heels of GOOD HONG KONG. Throughout the race, TANG PALACE travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight got its head on the side and lay out. A veterinary inspection of WIND DAMPER after the race revealed that the horse was a “roarer” which had previously been reported. A veterinary inspection of HOT PEPPER after the race did not show any significant findings. GOOD HONG KONG, MAKE IT and DIAMOND RAINBOW were sent for sampling.
