MATSUKAZE began awkwardly and then shortly after the start was checked when crowded for room between SUPREME GENKI and DARK SECRET which shifted out abruptly at the start. DARK SECRET continued to shift out and made contact with SUPREME GENKI which became badly unbalanced and shifted out, causing SILVER DRAGON to be crowded for room between that horse and EPEE DE HUA. In this incident, SILVER DRAGON clipped the heels of EPEE DE HUA and blundered. Before being allowed to race again, DARK SECRET will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. From the outside barrier, GRAND ELITE was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. When being steadied to allow EPEE DE HUA to cross after the 1200 Metres, DARK SECRET proved very difficult to settle and got its head up on a number of occasions. Approaching the 1000 Metres, COMMON GOAL and JOHN DORY raced in restricted room inside SUPREME GENKI which was awkwardly placed close to the heels of QUANTUM EXPRESS. BUDDY BUDDIES, which was following JOHN DORY, got its head up when racing close to the heels of that horse. Rounding the Home Turn, MATSUKAZE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of COMMON GOAL. After the 200 Metres, BUDDY BUDDIES got its head on the side and shifted in under pressure. For the majority of the race, GOOD GAINS travelled wide and without cover. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that NICHOLSON had lost its right front plate. A veterinary inspection of SILVER DRAGON after the race revealed that the horse had sustained a laceration wound at the back of its left hind foot. Before being allowed to race again, SILVER DRAGON will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. BUDDY BUDDIES and SUPREME GENKI were sent for sampling.
