ALDAWAY was withdrawn on 24.3.11 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (swollen right fore tendon) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter INTERCHINA STAR. Before being allowed to race again, ALDAWAY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. BUSINESS AS USUAL and WISER were slow to begin. Over the concluding stages, WINNING EDGE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GRAND DANCER and because of this was not fully tested. Throughout the race, BUSINESS AS USUAL and ENABLING travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, Z Purton (TAVERNER) stated that rounding the Home Turn he was positioned behind ENABLING which was commencing to give ground. He said at this point ENABLING was taken wider by FAMILISTS which was shifting out to improve from behind JUST FANTASTIC. He said when he noticed this, he elected to attempt to obtain a run to the inside of ENABLING rather than shifting to the outside of that horse and then being taken unnecessarily wider. He said as he was attempting a run to the inside of ENABLING and to the outside of INTERCHINA STAR, TAVERNER was severely checked when disappointed for running between those two horses when INTERCHINA STAR was taken out slightly by GRAND DANCER. This also resulted in INTERCHINA STAR becoming badly unbalanced. The Stewards will question C W Wong, the rider of 8th placed, SUNRISE, regarding his riding out of that horse over the concluding stages prior to the Happy Valley racemeeting on Wednesday, 30 March 2011. A veterinary inspection of TAVERNER after the race did not show any significant findings. FAMILISTS and JUST FANTASTIC were sent for sampling.
