MASCOT FORTUNE, Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 19.2.11 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore). Before being allowed to race again, MASCOT FORTUNE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. OUTTALIMITZ began awkwardly. From the outside barriers, WIN-A-LOT and PERFECT TEN were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. At the 600 Metres, PEGASUS SUPREME was steadied away from the heels of ISTIDE. BEST NOODLE, which was following PEGASUS SUPREME, was steadied in consequence. For the majority of the race, DUKE’S VICTORY travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, Z Purton advised that it had been intended for PEGASUS SUPREME to be ridden in a forward position. He said he rode his mount along in the early stags, however, both ISTIDE and HANDSOME BATCHELOR maintained their positions to his inside. He said as he did not believe he was in a position to clear those horses, passing the winning post on the first occasion he elected to shift in behind ISTIDE and obtain a position closer to the rail. He said this resulted in PEGASUS SUPREME racing further back than had been intended. A veterinary inspection of PERFECT TEN after the race did not show any significant findings. BUCCANEER, SOLAR BOY and HANDSOME BATCHELOR were sent for sampling.
