01/07/2022  Class 5  Shatin  Turf  C  1200m   Going: GOOD  (2.72)   Rating: 039-024  

KING’S TROOPER was crowded for room on jumping between CHIU CHOW BROTHER which was brushed by STEEL WIN and GIVE WAY PLEASE which shifted in. FORTUNE HERO shifted out at the start and bumped STRIVE FOR GLORY. After this, from a wide barrier, STRIVE FOR GLORY was shifted across behind runners. STAR OF WUYI shifted in on jumping and bumped M M JOHNNY. Also from a wide barrier, M M JOHNNY was then shifted across behind runners. When being steadied to obtain cover in the early stages, E HONEY proved difficult to settle and got its head up on a number of occasions. Also when being steadied to obtain a position behind THE MULTIPLIER in the early stages, CHIU CHOW BROTHER travelled keenly and got its head up. Then near the 900 Metres, CHIU CHOW BROTHER commenced to prove very difficult to settle and was awkwardly placed behind THE MULTIPLIER for some distance. After the 900 Metres, GIVE WAY PLEASE was left racing wide and without cover. G ONE EXCELLENT lay out rounding the Home Turn. Passing the 200 Metres, THE MULTIPLIER (B Shinn) shifted out under pressure. Then near the 50 Metres, B Shinn dropped his whip. Passing the 100 Metres, THETA HEDGE shifted out and bumped M M JOHNNY. After this, THETA HEDGE and M M JOHNNY raced tight and brushed on a number of occasions. THETA HEDGE was then crowded for room close to the finishing line between M M JOHNNY which shifted in marginally when unbalanced and G ONE EXCELLENT which shifted out. This resulted in all three horses becoming unbalanced over the concluding stages. After the race, K Teetan stated that, from the outside barrier, he was instructed to allow STAR OF WUYI to obtain a forward position in the early stages. He said after beginning well, STAR OF WUYI was able to take up a forward position without having to be made use of. He said after being placed under pressure passing the 400 Metres STAR OF WUYI then did not finish the race off. A veterinary inspection of STAR OF WUYI immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported. A veterinary inspection of CHIU CHOW BROTHER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. G ONE EXCELLENT, M M JOHNNY and THETA HEDGE were sent for sampling.

01/07/2022  Class 4  Shatin  Turf  C  1200m   Going: GOOD TO YIELDING  (2.72)   Rating: 059-042  

As the start was effected, E BROTHER lifted its front feet off the ground, resulting in the horse beginning only fairly. OVER THE MOON also began only fairly. ADEFILL shifted out at the start and bumped MIRACULOUS HONOUR. ADEFILL was then steadied away from the heels of MIRACULOUS HONOUR (H W Lai) which shifted in when being ridden along. H W Lai was reprimanded and told to ensure that he makes a far greater effort than he did on this occasion to prevent his mounts from shifting ground. RECIPROCATION was steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. Passing the 1100 Metres, SIXTH GENERATION got its head on the side and lay in away from E BROTHER, resulting in SIXTH GENERATION brushing the running rail. For some distance approaching and passing the 1100 Metres, HAPPY FAT CAT was awkwardly placed inside the heels of RIVER VIEWS (H Bentley) which shifted in. HAPPY FAT CAT was then tightened for room passing the 1000 Metres between RIVER VIEWS and MIRACULOUS HONOUR which shifted out. H Bentley was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. Making the turn near the 900 Metres, HAPPY FAT CAT shifted out and was awkwardly placed inside the heels of SMILING MOON which also shifted in. SMILING MOON was then left racing wide and without cover passing the 800 Metres. Passing the 550 Metres, E BROTHER was momentarily steadied away from the heels of SIXTH GENERATION (L Hewitson) which shifted out when not properly clear. L Hewitson was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. E BROTHER (Z Purton) had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight and passing the 200 Metres was awkwardly placed behind MIRACULOUS HONOUR which lay out under pressure. After the race, Z Purton reported that it was intended for E BROTHER to be ridden in a forward position today as usual. He said after being required to race further back in the field than had been anticipated, E BROTHER did not finish the race off in the Straight. He added that although E BROTHER had placed on the turf before, in his opinion, the horse is better suited on the All Weather surface. A veterinary inspection of E BROTHER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. In the early part of the Straight, REGENT GLORY got its head on the side and lay in under pressure. Also in the early part of the Straight, HAPPY FAT CAT (K Teetan) lay out under pressure. After this, HAPPY FAT CAT gave ground. After the race, K Teetan stated that, in his opinion, the horse did not handle today’s track surface. A veterinary inspection of HAPPY FAT CAT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Approaching the 250 Metres, Z Purton’s whip was knocked from his grasp by the whip of J Moreira (SUPER SUNNY SING). Near the 175 Metres, ADEFILL was shifted in away from the heels of SIXTH GENERATION which lay in under pressure. ADEFILL was then steadied approaching the 50 Metres when disappointed for running between SIXTH GENERATION and RIVER VIEWS which shifted out. OVER THE MOON was held up for clear running approaching the 50 Metres. E BROTHER, SUPER SUNNY SING and REGENT GLORY were sent for sampling.

TIANCHI MONSTER, which was leaning on the outside of its stall as the start was effected, began awkwardly and then was crowded for room inside BOURBONAIRE which shifted in abruptly on jumping. MONEY CATCHER shifted in at the start and bumped RUNNING GLORY. CALIFORNIA TEN and BELUGA bumped on jumping. From the outside barrier, CELESTIAL POWER was steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. A veterinary inspection of CELESTIAL POWER and TIANCHI MONSTER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. SIGHT SPIRIT, BOURBONAIRE and MONEY CATCHER were sent for sampling.

MISSION SMART was slow to begin. DAILY BEAUTY began only fairly. SEA MONARCH was crowded for room on jumping between BRAVE POWER and TAKINGUFURTHER, both of which shifted ground. TRAVEL GLORY got its head up on jumping, shifted in and inconvenienced WONDERFUL TIGER. Then from a wide barrier, TRAVEL GLORY was steadied to obtain cover. Also from the outside barrier, LONDON LUCKYSTAR was steadied to obtain a position closer to the rail. Throughout the race, RUBY STARS travelled wide and without cover. After the 700 Metres, TAKINGUFURTHER got its head on the side and lay out which resulted in RUBY STARS being taken wider again. After the 400 Metres, LONDON LUCKYSTAR was hampered when crowded for room between WONDERFUL TIGER and BRAVE POWER (B Shinn) which shifted out. B Shinn was severely reprimanded and told to exercise more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. BRAVE POWER then continued to shift out, resulting in WONDERFUL TIGER being inconvenienced passing the 300 Metres. B Shinn was further advised to exercise care. Near the 350 Metres, TRAVEL GLORY was shifted out away from the heels of GENERAL TRUMP. Then after the 200 Metres, TRAVEL GLORY was awkwardly placed inside the heels of WINWIN THIRTYTHREE which shifted in. Near the 75 Metres, SEA MONARCH shifted out under pressure. A veterinary inspection of GENERAL TRUMP and WONDERFUL TIGER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. WINWIN THIRTYTHREE, SEA MONARCH and BRAVE POWER were sent for sampling.

As the start was effected, LUCKY GOR became fractious and lifted its front feet off the ground, resulting in the horse being slow to begin. CRACK ON began awkwardly and shifted out towards the heels of SHINING FORTUNE, resulting in CRACK ON losing ground. UNITED WE STAND began awkwardly and shifted out, resulting in AMAZING ROCKY being momentarily crowded for room inside HAPPY TRIO which shifted in. After travelling a short distance, JACK WIN got its head on the side, shifted out and inconvenienced CRACK ON. Also after travelling a short distance, FLYING HIGH shifted out and bumped MANY WINS. Approaching the 500 Metres, FLYING HIGH and SHINING FORTUNE brushed. After the 400 Metres, FORTE lay in under pressure. FORTE then raced tight inside SPARKLING DOLPHIN near the 250 Metres. After the race, M F Poon stated that the only explanation he could find for the manner in which AMAZING ROCKY weakened over the latter stages of the race was that it failed to handle today’s track conditions. A veterinary inspection of AMAZING ROCKY immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. Before being allowed to race again, AMAZING ROCKY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of LUCKY GOR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. SPARKLING DOLPHIN and FORTE were sent for sampling.

M M NEBULA bumped the outside of its gate on jumping, resulting in the horse beginning awkwardly and losing ground. HA LEE CHARM shifted in at the start and bumped LIGHT OF WANSHI (M Chadwick). After the race, M Chadwick stated that despite being aggressively ridden along for a considerable distance in the early stages, LIGHT OF WANSHI would not stretch out and when becoming detached from the field became unbalanced approaching the 1200 Metres. He said he continued to ride LIGHT OF WANSHI along, however, the horse would not improve its position and remained detached until near the 600 Metres at which time he was able to improve to race at the rear of the field. The Stewards decided that as this was the second straight occasion that LIGHT OF WANSHI has tailed off in its races in the early and middle stages, the horse will be required to perform satisfactorily in a series of consecutive barrier trials prior to being permitted to race again. KARUIZAWA shifted out on jumping and bumped UNITED ENDEAVORS. From the outside barrier, WIN WIN was steadied in the early stages. Also from a wide barrier, YOUNG EXPLORER was steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. YOUNG EXPLORER lost its right front plate after the 1200 Metres. Near the 950 Metres, YOUNG EXPLORER was steadied away from the heels of JAZZ STEED which itself was being steadied in an attempt to obtain cover. When being steadied away from the heels of JAZZ STEED, YOUNG EXPLORER shifted out and bumped WIN WIN. After this, JAZZ STEED travelled wide and without cover. Making the turn near the 850 Metres, M M NEBULA got its head up and lost ground when awkwardly placed behind STUNNING IMPACT. NICHOLSON RETURNS was shifted out away from the heels of M M NEBULA in consequence, causing YOUNG EXPLORER to be crowded for room inside WIN WIN. Passing the 700 Metres, NICHOLSON RETURNS raced tight between JAZZ STEED and M M NEBULA which shifted out. At the entrance to the Straight, LIGHT OF WANSHI was shifted out away from the heels of JAZZ STEED to continue improving. ALL IS GOOD travelled wide and without cover throughout. After the race, L Hewitson stated that it was intended for NICHOLSON RETURNS, which was dropping back in distance to 1400 Metres today, to be ridden in as a forward position as possible. He said despite being ridden along in the early stages NICHOLSON RETURNS did not show early speed on today’s track and he felt that the track conditions combined with the tempo of the race over 1400 Metres resulted in the horse being unable to obtain a forward position and then not travelling well at any stage of the race. A veterinary inspection of NICHOLSON RETURNS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of HA LEE CHARM and M M NEBULA immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. NICHOLSON RETURNS, PEAK TO PEAK and WIN WIN were sent for sampling.

Prior to being saddled, HARMONY AND RICH lost its left front plate. When attempting to be replated, HARMONY AND RICH became very fractious, resulting in the left front plate not being able to be refitted. Accordingly, HARMONY AND RICH was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. BLAZE WARRIOR began only fairly. GRATEFUL HEART shifted out at the start and inconvenienced LUCKY EXPRESS. LUCKY EXPRESS lost its left front plate in the early stages. Approaching the 500 Metres, TRILLION WIN was bumped by MASTER EIGHT (J Moreira) which shifted out. J Moreira was advised to exercise care when shifting ground, particularly given today’s conditions. Approaching the 300 Metres, MASTER EIGHT was brushed by WINNING DREAMER which improved into tight running between MASTER EIGHT and NERVOUS WITNESS. After the race, M F Poon stated that after being ridden along in the early stages to obtain the lead, CAMPIONE travelled satisfactorily in the middle stages, however, came under heavy pressure at the entrance to the Straight and then weakened out of the race noticeably over the latter stages. A veterinary inspection of CAMPIONE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of LUCKY EXPRESS and MASTER EIGHT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. NERVOUS WITNESS, DUKE WAI and WINNING DREAMER were sent for sampling.

BRAVE STAR began awkwardly. SPARTAN MISSILE began only fairly. ONE FOR ALL lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and then was bumped on jumping by BEAUTY TYCOON which shifted in. SPICY SKEWER and DIVINE ERA bumped at the start. Then a short distance after the start, SPICY SKEWER was awkwardly placed inside the heels of DIVINE ERA which shifted in. In the Straight, SON PAK FU lay in under pressure and for some distance after the 300 Metres raced tight outside AMAZING INNOVATOR which also shifted out under pressure. Then over the concluding stages, SON PAK FU proved difficult to ride when continuing to lay in. Throughout the race, SMART FOLKS travelled wide and without cover. After the race, L Ferraris said that SPARTAN MISSILE’s failure to finish the race off today was attributable to the horse not handling the track conditions. A veterinary inspection of SPARTAN MISSILE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of AMAZING INNOVATOR immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer”. BEAUTY TYCOON, ROYAL AGILITY and SMART FOLKS were sent for sampling.

LEADING FORTUNE lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and lost ground. TEMPEST EXPRESS and MASSIVE ACTION bumped on jumping. KASA PAPA was steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. Also from a wide barrier, S J TOURBILLON was steadied and shifted across behind runners. Approaching the 1100 Metres, NEARLY FINE was crowded for room between LOOKING COOL and COMPASSION SPIRIT (M L Yeung) which shifted in. M L Yeung was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Throughout the race, COMET SPLENDIDO and COMPASSION SPIRIT travelled wide and without cover. After the race, L Hewitson reported that SUPER WINNER never travelled comfortably at any stage of today’s race. A veterinary inspection of SUPER WINNER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of MASSIVE ACTION and NEARLY FINE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. TUCHEL, LEADING FORTUNE and MR ASCENDENCY were sent for sampling.

SAKEWIN began awkwardly, shifted in abruptly and bumped SUPER BUDDY. ACE ONE shifted out at the start and hampered GRACYLOVE and KEEN UNITY. After this, from the outside barriers, GRACYLOVE and KEEN UNITY were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Approaching the 900 Metres, REGENCY BO BO raced tight inside the heels of GRACYLOVE. Then passing the 900 Metres, KEEN UNITY was bumped by GRACYLOVE which was taken out by SUPER BUDDY. Near the 750 Metres, REGENCY BO BO briefly raced in restricted room between LUCKY QUALITY and KEEN UNITY. H T Mo (SUPER BUDDY) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that rounding the Home Turn and at the entrance to the Straight he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of GRACYLOVE, causing that horse to be hampered and to be taken out onto KEEN UNITY which became badly unbalanced when unnecessarily crowded for room between GRACYLOVE and POWER KOEPP. H T Mo was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 13 July 2022 and to expire on Sunday, 17 July 2022 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Mo’s good race riding record. Passing the 300 Metres, KEEN UNITY raced tight outside the heels of GRACYLOVE which shifted out. A veterinary inspection of STAR BRITE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. SAKEWIN, POWER KOEPP and MIDORI BEAUTY were sent for sampling.
