EVEN KEEL was withdrawn on 13.7.21 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (inappetence) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter WEALTHY EMPLOYEE. Before being allowed to race again, EVEN KEEL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GOLD 'N’ BOLD shifted out at the start and brushed GENERAL DINO. SHINEALOT shifted out at the start and bumped VIRTUS STAR. WEALTHY EMPLOYEE was crowded for room on jumping between LIGHT MY DAY which shifted in and SUCCESS ALLSTARS which got its head on the side and shifted out when being steadied to obtain cover from a wide barrier. After this, WEALTHY EMPLOYEE was steadied and shifted across behind runners. PERFECT TO PLAY was also steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, HAY RUN failed to muster speed. Then passing the 1600 Metres, HAY RUN got its head up when awkwardly placed outside the heels of SHINEALOT which was being steadied to obtain cover behind GOLD 'N’ BOLD. Approaching the 1100 Metres, LIGHT MY DAY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of VIRTUS STAR. Making the turn after the 600 Metres, GOLD 'N’ BOLD shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of SUCCESS ALLSTARS. GOLD 'N’ BOLD then commenced to give ground and near the 500 Metres shifted in marginally, resulting in WEALTHY EMPLOYEE being crowded for room. Approaching the 400 Metres, GOLD 'N’ BOLD and SHINEALOT raced tight. For the majority of the race, VIRTUS STAR travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. The performance of VIRTUS STAR, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, VIRTUS STAR will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. The performance of LIGHT MY DAY, which also finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, LIGHT MY DAY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on SHINEALOT at the request of Trainer P O’Sullivan. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea. A veterinary inspection of HAY RUN, LIGHT MY DAY, GOLD 'N’ BOLD, VIRTUS STAR and RIGHTEOUS WIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. PERFECT TO PLAY, SUCCESS ALLSTARS and WEALTHY EMPLOYEE were sent for sampling.

As the start was effected, BOND A STAR turned its head to the right, resulting in the horse being slow to begin. Before being allowed to race again, BOND A STAR will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. On jumping, TELECOM MISSILE lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently was slow to begin. Having regard to TELECOM MISSILE’s previous record in respect of the manner in which it began its races, the Stewards ruled that that horse must barrier trial satisfactorily before being allowed to race again. MULTIPLE STAR began only fairly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of DR PROACTIVE. After being brushed by AFTER ME on jumping, E HONEY got its head on the side and shifted out, resulting in E HONEY being steadied away from the heels of CHUNGHWA JINGSHEN. Near the 950 Metres, TELECOM MISSILE was steadied away from the heels of MULTIPLE STAR (H Bentley) which shifted in. H Bentley was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. FLYING MONKEY got its head on the side and lay out rounding the Home Turn. At the 300 Metres, TELECOM MISSILE was awkwardly placed outside the heels of E HONEY. At the 200 Metres, GOOD LUCK MONEY shifted in and bumped WINNING WARRIOR. Near the 100 Metres, WINNING WARRIOR was shifted out away from the heels of FLYING MONKEY which lay out under pressure. Throughout the race, GOOD LUCK MONEY travelled wide and without cover. After the race, C Schofield reported that DR PROACTIVE did not feel comfortable in its action throughout the race. A veterinary inspection of DR PROACTIVE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. As this was the second occasion within DR PROACTIVE’s last three starts that a rider had expressed concern regarding its action in races, the Stewards ruled that that horse must undertake a series of no less than three consecutive satisfactory barrier trials and be subjected to an official veterinary examination prior to being permitted to race again. Further, DR PROACTIVE will be referred to the Department of Veterinary Regulation, Welfare and Biosecurity Policy for further assessment. A veterinary inspection of TELECOM MISSILE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. SHANGHAI POWER and CHUNGHWA JINGSHEN were sent for sampling.

TOP ACCOLADE began only fairly. AMIGOS GIGGLE and SUPERB DADDY bumped at the start. CASA DE FORCA began only fairly, shifted out on jumping and was checked away from the heels of TOP MILITARY. Then from a wide barrier, CASA DE FORCA was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. When being steadied to obtain a position with cover from a wide barrier, TOP MILITARY was momentarily steadied away from the heels of MOST WELCOME shortly after the start. Passing the 700 Metres, SO AWESOME was left racing wide and without cover and then after the 500 Metres got its head on the side and lay out. After the 900 Metres, ICE LEGEND got its head on the side and lay in away from MOST WELCOME. Then approaching the 800 Metres, ICE LEGEND momentarily raced tight inside MOST WELCOME (C Schofield) which shifted in. ICE LEGEND then got its head on the side and hung in abruptly across the running of ORION PATCH which was hampered. C Schofield was advised that whilst the Stewards considered that this incident was largely due to the racing manners of ICE LEGEND, nonetheless he had originally shifted in when not properly clear of that horse. He was told to ensure that he provides comfortable racing room for runners to his inside in similar circumstances. After this incident, ORION PATCH continued to be awkwardly placed inside the heels of ICE LEGEND which lay in away from MOST WELCOME when racing greenly. This resulted in ORION PATCH being steadied away from the heels of ICE LEGEND near the 650 Metres. ICE LEGEND continued to lay in and approaching the 600 Metres bumped AMIGOS GIGGLE which became unbalanced. Passing the 100 Metres, LORIZ raced tight inside HAPPILY FRIENDS which shifted in under pressure. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ICE LEGEND, J Moreira stated that his mount raced greenly for the majority of the event. He said the horse did not travel strongly at any stage when shifting ground on a number of occasions. He said he placed ICE LEGEND under pressure after the 500 Metres, however, the horse did not quicken and after staying on one-paced rounding the Home Turn then failed to finish off the race over the latter stages. A veterinary inspection of ICE LEGEND immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, ICE LEGEND will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of SO AWESOME immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. ICE LEGEND, HAPPILY FRIENDS and LORIZ were sent for sampling.

SKY TREASURE was withdrawn on 13.7.21 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right hind) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter ARES (C Schofield). ARES was subsequently withdrawn on raceday afternoon by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right hind). Before being allowed to race again, SKY TREASURE and ARES will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. On arrival at the Start, K Teetan expressed concern regarding the action of ISLAND SHINE. After examining ISLAND SHINE, the Veterinary Officer reported that after the necessary consultations the horse was found to be suitable to race. As the start was effected, MASTER OF FUN became fractious and reared, resulting in the horse losing a significant amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, MASTER OF FUN will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial. HAPPY TIME shifted out at the start and bumped the hindquarters of HERO STAR, resulting on both horses becoming unbalanced. DAILY BEAUTY was steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. From a wide barrier, FORTUNE HAPPINESS was also steadied in the early stages and after the 1000 Metres was left racing wide and without cover. Despite being ridden along for a considerable distance in the early stages, ISLAND SHINE was slow to muster speed. The Stewards opened an inquiry into the reason for ISLAND SHINE (K Teetan) falling at the 500 Metres. Evidence was taken from K Teetan, A Hamelin (FLYING SWORD), H Bentley (GOOD SHOT) and Apprentice C L Chau (XPONENTIAL). It was found that at the 550 Metres GOOD SHOT became badly unbalanced and lost ground when reluctant to improve its position inside XPONENTIAL which was racing outside the heels of HERO STAR. When GOOD SHOT became unbalanced, it shifted out towards the heels of XPONENTIAL, causing FLYING SWORD to lose ground when crowded for room between GOOD SHOT and FORTUNE HAPPINESS. When FLYING SWORD lost ground, ISLAND SHINE, which was racing to the outside of that horse, clipped the heels of FLYING SWORD and fell. As the Stewards were of the opinion that there was no rider error involved in this incident and that it was caused by GOOD SHOT being reluctant to maintain its position inside XPONENTIAL, no further action was taken other than GOOD SHOT will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial around a bend and in amongst runners prior to being permitted to race again. When ISLAND SHINE fell, HAPPY TIME was hampered and lost ground and SINCERE BOY, which was following that horse, was checked in consequence. DAILY BEAUTY, which was following ISLAND SHINE, was severely checked and lost ground whilst MASTER OF FUN was also severely checked to avoid ISLAND SHINE which resulted in MASTER OF FUN losing a significant amount of ground and being eased down rounding the Home Turn. A veterinary inspection of ISLAND SHINE immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in the right hind with abrasions to that leg. Before being allowed to race again, ISLAND SHINE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, K Teetan was examined by the Chief Medical Officer and passed fit to fulfil his remaining race riding engagements. In the Straight, FORTUNE HAPPINESS lay in under pressure. A veterinary inspection of DAILY BEAUTY and FLYING SWORD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of MASTER OF FUN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious. HAPPY PROFIT, XPONENTIAL and FORTUNE HAPPINESS were sent for sampling.

RED IMPACT and PRIME STAR bumped at the start. BLAZING BEAT began only fairly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of MANNA FROM HEAVEN, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced and BLAZING BEAT losing ground. When MANNA FROM HEAVEN became unbalanced, it shifted out and bumped ON EXCEL STAR. SUN OF MAKFI began awkwardly. From the outside barriers, SUPER FAST, CHARIZARD and ZHAN JIANG ROCKS were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Near the 1150 Metres, ON EXCEL STAR momentarily raced in restricted room between RED IMPACT and MANNA FROM HEAVEN. Near the 1050 Metres, LAND POWER and PRIME STAR bumped. LAND POWER then shifted out, resulting in CHEERFUL LEADER shifting out away from that horse, causing MANNA FROM HEAVEN to be inconvenienced. ON EXCEL STAR, which was following, was hampered in consequence. After this, CHEERFUL LEADER was left racing wide and without cover. Passing the 500 Metres, ZHAN JIANG ROCKS and SUN OF MAKFI raced tight as SUN OF MAKFI improved into tight running between ZHAN JIANG ROCKS and STRIVE FOR GLORY. Passing the 400 Metres, ZHAN JIANG ROCKS was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MANNA FROM HEAVEN. SUPER FAST, which was following, was shifted out away from the heels of ZHAN JIANG ROCKS in consequence. SUPER FAST, which was following, was shifted out away from the heels of ZHAN JIANG ROCKS in consequence. SUPER FAST then raced very close to the heels of MANNA FROM HEAVEN when being shifted to the outside of that horse after the 300 Metres. Approaching the 200 Metres, MANNA FROM HEAVEN was steadied away from the heels of ZHAN JIANG ROCKS which shifted out. At the 200 Metres, ON EXCEL STAR was eased away from the heels of CHARIZARD when racing in restricted room between that horse which shifted in and SUPER FAST. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in as they were of the prima facie view that an incident had occurred approaching the 100 Metres which cast sufficient doubt on whether RED IMPACT (C Y Ho) should be declared the winner. Subsequently Apprentice K H Chan, the rider of LAND POWER, which finished second, lodged a protest/objection against RED IMPACT being declared the winner alleging interference approaching the 100 Metres. After taking evidence from all parties concerned and after viewing the videos, it was established that in the early part of the Straight RED IMPACT had improved its position inside LAND POWER after initially racing behind that horse. As RED IMPACT was improving inside LAND POWER, LAND POWER commenced to shift in under pressure. It was further established that at the 120 Metres RED IMPACT and LAND POWER bumped as a result of RED IMPACT shifting out and LAND POWER also shifting in marginally under pressure. When RED IMPACT and LAND POWER bumped, Apprentice Chan dropped his whip. After this, both horses had clear and uninterrupted running over the concluding stages. As the Stewards were of the opinion that RED IMPACT had come from behind LAND POWER and that the contact between the horses had resulted from a shift from both runners, the protest/objection was overruled and weighed-in confirmed on the numbers semaphored by the Judge. After the race, J Moreira stated that it was intended for ON EXCEL STAR to be ridden in a forward position, however, the horse did not show as much early speed as anticipated and raced further back in the field than had been intended. He said when the pace of the race was only moderate after the 1300 Metres, ON EXCEL STAR raced keenly. He said ON EXCEL STAR did not travel on the bridle at any stage of the race and then failed to close off the race in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of ON EXCEL STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. SUN OF MAKFI, RED IMPACT and LAND POWER were sent for sampling.

HEART CONQUERED then got its head up on a number of occasions when awkwardly placed close to the heels of STORM WARNINGS which was steadied to obtain cover behind RESOLUTE. Rounding the Home Turn, WILD WEST WING raced in restricted room between METRO WARRIOR and STORM WARNINGS when improving into tight running between those horses. Close to the finishing line, HEART CONQUERED was awkwardly placed inside the heels of QUADRUPLE DOUBLE which shifted in under pressure. Because of this, HEART CONQUERED was not ridden out all the way to the end of the race. Throughout the race, RESOLUTE travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of STORM WARNINGS immediately following the race found that horse to have bled from both nostrils. A veterinary inspection of HEART CONQUERED immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. BRILLIANT FORTUNE, RESOLUTE and BE READY were sent for sampling.

After traveling approximately 50 Metres, Apprentice C L Chau (LAKESHORE EAGLE) dropped his whip. H T Mo (MAGNIFICENT) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that for some distance after the 1600 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of HELENE WISDOM STAR, resulting in that horse being taken in and causing LOBO’S LEGEND and GIFT OF LIFELINE to be badly hampered when unnecessarily crowded for room inside HELENE WISDOM STAR and for LOBO’S LEGEND to be steadied and lose its rightful running after passing the winning post on the first occasion. In the circumstances, H T Mo was fined the sum of $50,000 in lieu of a period of suspension which would incorporate 5 racedays. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, MAGNIFICENT was steadied away from the heels of TELECOM FIGHTERS (T Piccone) which shifted in when not properly clear. T Piccone was reprimanded.
