27/05/2020  Class 4  Shatin  All Weather Track    1200m   Going: WET SLOW  (9.81)    Rating: 060-040  

GRACIOUS RYDER and WINNING BREW were crowded for room on jumping between YICHUN BLITZ and BLOTTING PAPER, both of which shifted ground. LITTLE THUNDER shifted out at the start and bumped PRECIOUS SWEETIE. KING’S TROOPER was crowded for room on jumping between DOLLAR REWARD and FOR FUN’S SAKE which shifted out. GOLDEN MISSION stumbled at the start. Near the 750 Metres, KING’S TROOPER was steadied away from the heels of FOR FUN’S SAKE (V Borges) which shifted in when not quite clear. V Borges was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. At the entrance to the Straight, GRACIOUS RYDER was brushed by YICHUN BLITZ which shifted to the outside of DOLLAR REWARD. For a short distance after this, YICHUN BLITZ and GRACIOUS RYDER raced tight. Close to the finishing line, A Hamelin (SAM’S LOVE) lost the use of his whip. After passing the winning post, COOLCELEB became unbalanced in its action. A veterinary inspection of COOLCELEB immediately following the race found that horse to be distressed and unbalanced behind. Before being allowed to race again, COOLCELEB will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Throughout the race, DOLLAR REWARD travelled wide and without cover. The performance of KING’S TROOPER, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, KING’S TROOPER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of C Schofield (YICHUN BLITZ), 6th placegetter, over the concluding stages did not affect the horse’s finishing position, he was nonetheless reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels all the way to the end of the race where circumstances permit. When questioned, Apprentice C Wong stated that after riding his mount along in the early stages to take up a forward position, LITTLE THUNDER travelled only fairly. He said approaching the 700 Metres LITTLE THUNDER was racing between BLOTTING PAPER and KING’S TROOPER and making the turn near the 650 Metres LITTLE THUNDER was reluctant to maintain its position between those horses which resulted in it losing ground and KING’S TROOPER being able to shift in from a three wide position to be racing in front of LITTLE THUNDER. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that YICHUN BLITZ had bled from both nostrils. Also after the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that when being walked back to the stabling area, GRACIOUS RYDER became distressed. Before being allowed to race again, GRACIOUS RYDER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. COOLCELEB and WINNING BREW were sent for sampling.

27/05/2020  Class 5  Shatin  All Weather Track    1800m   Going: GOOD  (9.81)    Rating: 040-000  

The Veterinary Officer reported that DR LUCKY STAR, which became fractious in the Parade Ring, pulled back and momentarily got down, was found to be suitable to race. HAPPY ICHIBAN stumbled at the start. ROCKAGE shifted out at the start and bumped SKY GEM. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, WICKER failed to muster speed. From wide barriers, OLD HAVANA and BREAK RECORD were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, CAMFORD MAGIC was steadied away from the heels of CURLING LUXURY. Passing the 700 Metres, SKY GEM was shifted out away from the heels of CAMFORD MAGIC after being awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse which came under pressure. Passing the 500 Metres, OLD HAVANA went amiss and was retired from the race. After the race, OLD HAVANA was found to have sustained an injury to the left knee. After the race, C Schofield (HAPPY ICHIBAN) reported that after being left racing three wide and without cover after passing the winning post on the first occasion, he attempted to improve his position forward of ROCKAGE near the 1300 Metres, however, when that horse, which was travelling strongly, maintained its position to the inside of HAPPY ICHIBAN, he believed he would have had to do too much work to attempt to cross that horse and this resulted in HAPPY ICHIBAN remaining in a three wide position and without cover throughout the race. He added HAPPY ICHIBAN never travelled well at any stage of the race and came under pressure passing the 700 Metres. A veterinary inspection of HAPPY ICHIBAN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of HAPPY ICHIBAN, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY ICHIBAN will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the performance of HAY RUN, A Hamelin stated that his mount did not travel well at any stage of the race. He said, despite continually riding his mount along, HAY RUN was reluctant to stretch out and then did not take the turns well. He said, despite being vigorously ridden along after the 600 Metres, HAY RUN gave ground noticeably and finished at the rear of the field. A veterinary inspection of HAY RUN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of HAY RUN was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, HAY RUN will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of CAMFORD MAGIC immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. The performance of CAMFORD MAGIC, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, CAMFORD MAGIC will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of WICKER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of WICKER, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, WICKER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on BREAK RECORD at the request of Trainer C S Shum. The Veterinary Surgeon reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, BREAK RECORD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. HIDDEN SPIRIT and CURLING LUXURY were sent for sampling.

EXCEL DELIGHT was withdrawn on 26.5.20 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter STOCK LEGEND (C Schofield). Before being allowed to race again, EXCEL DELIGHT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. STOCK LEGEND was slow to begin. PEARL CHAMPION and MASTERWORK bumped at the start. JADE THEATRE shifted out at the start and bumped SUNSHINE UNIVERSE. After this, despite being hard ridden in the early stages, SUNSHINE UNIVERSE failed to muster speed and then in the middle stages became detached from the field. Approaching the 800 Metres, STOCK LEGEND momentarily raced in restricted room inside ADONIS which was racing tight inside ANONYMA. Approaching the 600 Metres, JADE THEATRE was steadied away from the heels of ANONYMA after being awkwardly placed behind that horse which was giving ground. Near the 350 Metres, MASTERWORK shifted out and made contact with THOU SHALL SING. Throughout the race, GOOD LUCK MONEY travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of STOCK LEGEND immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. THOU SHALL SING and PEARL CHAMPION were sent for sampling. <28/5/2020 Additional Veterinary Report>The Veterinary Surgeon reported that SUNSHINE UNIVERSE was lame in its both front legs on the morning after racing. Before being allowed to race again, SUNSHINE UNIVERSE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

HARMONY HERO was withdrawn on 26.5.20 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore). Before being allowed to race again, HARMONY HERO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. NOBLE STEED was checked when crowded for room on jumping between MONGOLIAN KING and STAR PERFORMANCE which, after shifting out of its own accord, was then taken out by CORDYCEPS. GLORIOUS ARTIST was steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. Passing the 1400 Metres, STAR PERFORMANCE got its head up when crowded for room inside MONGOLIAN KING which shifted in when awkwardly placed close to the heels of CORDYCEPS. After the race, C Y Ho reported that CORDYCEPS, which was having its first start on the All Weather surface tonight, in his opinion, did not appreciate the kickback. He said after obtaining a position behind the speed, CORDYCEPS was reluctant to maintain its position in the middle stages and came under pressure passing the 700 Metres. He said after this CORDYCEPS did not finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of CORDYCEPS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. KINGS SHIELD and BUDDIES were sent for sampling.

BOND A STAR began very awkwardly and then lost ground when steadied away from the heels of WAYFOONG CHARMER which shifted out. BREEZE OF SPRING began awkwardly. Shortly after the start, GOLDIE FLANKER was steadied when crowded for room between HANDSOME REBEL and STRIKING MR C which shifted in. After travelling a short distance, STRIKING MR C was shifted in away from the heels of ELITE BOY which shifted in. STRIKING MR C was then steadied away from the heels of ELITE BOY (Apprentice C L Chau) which again shifted in after the 1100 Metres when not properly clear. Apprentice Chau was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is properly clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances. After the 1000 Metres, WAYFOONG CHARMER raced in restricted room inside STAR SUPERIOR which got its head on the side and lay in when being ridden along. Approaching the 200 Metres, WAYFOONG CHARMER was shifted out across the heels of STAR SUPERIOR to obtain clear running. When questioned, A Hamelin stated that he was instructed to ride VICTORY MASTERY towards the rear of the field. He said it was hoped that VICTORY MASTERY may be able to be in front of one or two horses, however, it was anticipated that it would be racing close to the rear of the field. He said after beginning satisfactorily he steadied his mount shortly after the start to shift it across to race behind STAR SUPERIOR. He said VICTORY MASTERY immediately commenced to hang in and got further out of its ground than anticipated in the early stages as he attempted to prevent it from hanging in. He added passing the 1100 Metres he changed his whip over into his right hand, however, VICTORY MASTERY would not race tractably and continued to hang in. He said he attempted to ride his mount along after the 1000 Metres to make up lost ground, however, VICTORY MASTERY was proving to be a difficult ride and because of this the horse got much further back in the field than had been intended. He said he rode his mount along in the middle stages, however, VICTORY MASTERY continued to lay in and then made the turn after the 700 Metres and the Home Turn awkwardly. A veterinary inspection of VICTORY MASTERY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of HANDSOME REBEL, Z Purton was not able to offer any explanation for the horse’s failure to finish off the race. He said after taking a trailing position behind the leaders, HANDSOME REBEL raced inside the eventual winner STRIKING MR C and appeared to travel satisfactorily in the middle stages. He said however after placing his mount under pressure passing the 600 Metres, HANDSOME REBEL did not quicken and then finished off the race only one-paced in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of HANDSOME REBEL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. HANDSOME REBEL, STRIKING MR C and GUNNAR were sent for sampling.

TAKINGUFURTHER was slow to begin. BEAUTY LOYAL began only fairly, then shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of SUNSET WATCH. KA YING LEGEND shifted out at the start and bumped VICTORY IN HAND. From the outside barrier, FANTASTIC FEELING was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Making the turn near the 700 Metres, TAKINGUFURTHER was crowded for room inside LE TERROIR which got its head on the side and lay in. At the entrance to the Straight, TAKINGUFURTHER was shifted in away from the heels of BEAUTY LOYAL which was awkwardly placed close to the heels of ENSHRINED. Passing the 300 Metres, WON BALL raced tight outside BEAUTY LOYAL as that horse shifted to the outside of ENSHRINED to obtain clear running. Passing the 200 Metres, TAKINGUFURTHER was awkwardly placed inside the heels of ENSHRINED. Apprentice C L Chau, the rider of KA YING LEGEND, reported that after being crossed by SUPER POWER MAN near the 1100 Metres, KA YING LEGEND, which was having its first start on the All Weather Track in Hong Kong, had to be ridden along to maintain its position behind that horse. He said, despite being ridden along, KA YING LEGEND commenced to give ground near the 1000 Metres and then passing the 900 Metres became badly unbalanced in its action which resulted in the horse losing further ground. He said he again rode KA YING LEGEND along, however, the horse continued to lose ground and after brushing the running rail near the 700 Metres gave ground abruptly. He added as he had concerns for the welfare of the horse, he eased it down after the 600 Metres. A veterinary inspection of KA YING LEGEND immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of KA YING LEGEND, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, KA YING LEGEND will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of SUPER POWER MAN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of VICTORY IN HAND immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea. SUPER POWER MAN, BEAUTY LOYAL and GOOD FOR YOU were sent for sampling. <28/5/2020 Additional Veterinary Report>SUPER POWER MAN, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. SUPER POWER MAN was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer K L Man this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER POWER MAN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

JADE FORTUNE shifted out at the start and bumped PARTY EVERYDAY which in turn shifted out, resulting in HANG’S DECISION being crowded for room inside SUPER BULLET and bumping the hindquarters of that horse, causing both HANG’S DECISION and SUPER BULLET to become unbalanced and lose ground. When SUPER BULLET became unbalanced, it shifted out and made contact with RIGHTEOUS MATE which became unbalanced in its action and lost ground. After this, despite being ridden along for a considerable distance, RIGHTEOUS MATE became detached from the field in the middle stages. CHUNG WAH SPIRIT shifted out at the start and bumped GENERAL DINO which shifted out and inconvenienced KELMIMI WINS. Approaching and passing the winning post on the first occasion, STARLIT KNIGHT and MEGATRON (H N Wong) raced tight due to MEGATRON shifting in. H N Wong was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. KELMIMI WINS, which was racing inside STARLIT KNIGHT, was steadied away from the heels of that horse in consequence passing the winning post on the first occasion. After being ridden along for a considerable distance in the early stages from the outside barrier, POLYMER LUCK was left racing very wide passing the winning post on the first occasion and approaching the 1400 Metres was steadied to obtain cover, however, continued to race very wide and without cover. Throughout the race, SMILING CITY travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of THIS ONE’S FOR YOU immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, THIS ONE’S FOR YOU will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of SMILING CITY and MEGATRON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. PARTY EVERYDAY and JADE FORTUNE were sent for sampling.

ELITE PATCH was withdrawn on 26.5.20 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter TRUST ME (M F Poon). Before being allowed to race again, ELITE PATCH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. CALIFORNIA CONCORD shifted in at the start and inconvenienced HALL OF CHAMP. ZERO HEDGE shifted out at the start and bumped JUST NOT LISTENING (Z Purton) which became unbalanced. Z Purton stated that after this he rode his mount aggressively for some distance to obtain a prominent position as instructed, however, JUST NOT LISTENING did not show as much early speed as a number of other runners in the early stages and therefore he elected, approaching the 1000 Metres, to steady his mount and obtain cover rather than continue to race unnecessarily wide. He said when racing behind runners, JUST NOT LISTENING did not travel strongly at any stage of the race and in the Straight gave ground. He added, in his opinion, JUST NOT LISTENING produces best when able to obtain a leading position. From a wide barrier, STRIVE FOR GLORY was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Passing the 1100 Metres, CANTSTOPTHEFEELING shifted in and bumped UTOPIA LIFE. After being ridden along in the early stages to obtain a forward position, ZERO HEDGE was steadied after the 1100 Metres to obtain cover. PRANCE DRAGON was shifted across behind runners from a wide barrier in the early stages. Making the turn after the 700 Metres, PRANCE DRAGON got its head on the side and lay out away from MEGA HEART. Near the 350 Metres, ZERO HEDGE shifted out and made contact with CANTSTOPTHEFEELING, causing both horses to become unbalanced. After the 300 Metres, HALL OF CHAMP was held up for clear running inside SINCERE BOY and behind JUST NOT LISTENING which was giving ground. Then approaching the 200 Metres, HALL OF CHAMP was shifted to the outside of SINCERE BOY to obtain clear running. Throughout the race, CANTSTOPTHEFEELING travelled wide and without cover. After the race, M F Poon reported that TRUST ME made an abnormal breathing noise when under pressure in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of TRUST ME immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of STRIVE FOR GLORY and JUST NOT LISTENING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. UTOPIA LIFE, CALIFORNIA CONCORD and ZERO HEDGE were sent for sampling.

RICKFIELD shifted out at the start and bumped TOUCH OF LUCK. GAMEPLAYER TIMES and TURIN REDSTAR bumped at the start. From wide barriers, ENFOLDING, LONDON LUCKYSTAR, LA YAKFI and UNITE SPIRIT were all steadied and shifted across behind runners in the early stages. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, RICKFIELD was steadied away from the heels of TOUCH OF LUCK. Passing the 1300 Metres, TOUCH OF LUCK commenced to travel keenly and got its head up on a number of occasions when awkwardly placed behind CALIFORNIA ARGENT. After the 900 Metres, UNITE SPIRIT was left racing wide and without cover. Approaching the 300 Metres, GAMEPLAYER TIMES shifted in and inconvenienced LONDON LUCKYSTAR which then got its head on the side and shifted in towards the heels of TURIN REDSTAR which was commencing to give ground. The performance of FUN LEGEND, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FUN LEGEND will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of FUN LEGEND immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. H T Mo (CALIFORNIA ARGENT) was spoken to regarding using the whip in the backhand manner down the shoulder of the horse on a number of occasions in the Straight. After the race, K Teetan reported that LA YAKFI hung out throughout the race and proved difficult to ride. A veterinary inspection of TURIN REDSTAR, PING HAI TREASURE, LA YAKFI and UNITE SPIRIT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. ENFOLDING and TOUCH OF LUCK were sent for sampling. 28/5/2020 Additional Veterinary Report>UNITE SPIRIT, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. UNITE SPIRIT was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer D E Ferraris this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, UNITE SPIRIT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. LA YAKFI, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. LA YAKFI was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer C S Shum this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, LA YAKFI will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
