On arrival at the Start, the tongue tie applied to FORTUNE WAY was replaced. JUNZI began only fairly and then was bumped shortly after the start by FORTUNE WAY which shifted in. ABSOLUCOOL, which was fractious in the barriers, began very awkwardly and shifted out towards the heels of GREAT SON, resulting in ABSOLUCOOL losing ground. From the outside barriers, GENERAL TRUMP and FOX CHEUNGER were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Making the first turn near the 700 Metres, EXPONENTS (G van Niekerk) shifted out, resulting in CORRE RAPIDO racing tight inside GRAND HARBOUR. CORRE RAPIDO was then eased due to EXPONENTS shifting out further. G van Niekerk was advised to exercise more care. Also making the turn near the 700 Metres, FAIRY FLOSS got its head on the side and lay out. Passing the 600 Metres, EXPONENTS shifted out and made contact with GRAND HARBOUR. After this, EXPONENTS and GRAND HARBOUR raced tight. At the entrance to the Straight, GENERAL TRUMP raced tight inside the hindquarters of AURORA STEED. Passing the 250 Metres, FORTUNE WAY was directed out from behind GREAT SON to obtain clear running. Passing the 100 Metres, ABSOLUCOOL raced tight between FORTUNE WAY and AURORA STEED, both of which shifted slight ground. Close to the finishing line, AURORA STEED was awkwardly placed inside the heels of EXPONENTS. Throughout the race, CHUNGHWA JINGSHEN and GRAND HARBOUR travelled wide and without cover. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that ABSOLUCOOL was lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, ABSOLUCOOL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. An initial veterinary inspection of AURORA STEED immediately following the race did not reveal any significant findings, however, a further examination of AURORA STEED after that horse was washed down found it to have a haematoma on the left shoulder. Before being allowed to race again, AURORA STEED will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of CORRE RAPIDO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious. AURORA STEED, GENERAL TRUMP and FAIRY FLOSS were sent for sampling.

01/04/2020  Class 4  Shatin  All Weather Track    1200m   Going: WET SLOW  (9.27)    Rating: 060-040

GOLDEN MISSION and HAPPY WINNER bumped at the start. SPLENDID TIMING and GOOD LUCK MONEY were badly crowded for room on jumping between NOBLE CONSORT which shifted out and LITTLE THUNDER which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider. This resulted in GOOD LUCK MONEY being hampered and SPLENDID TIMING losing ground when checked and for NOBLE CONSORT to become unbalanced due to contact on the hindquarters from SPLENDID TIMING. After being hampered on jumping, GOOD LUCK MONEY was steadied a short distance after the start to obtain cover from a wide barrier. Shortly after the start, KA FORTUNE and THOU SHALL SING bumped as a result of KA FORTUNE shifting out and THOU SHALL SING being taken in by GRACIOUS RYDER. Near the 1100 Metres, KA FORTUNE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of THOU SHALL SING. Throughout the race, NOBLE CONSORT travelled wide and without cover and consequently finished tailed out. A veterinary inspection of NOBLE CONSORT immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea. The performance of NOBLE CONSORT was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, NOBLE CONSORT will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, N Callan reported that after beginning awkwardly and bumping the outside of its barrier, he rode SHIMMER AND SHINE aggressively in an attempt to take up a forward position. He said after obtaining a position behind the leaders, he then had to continually ride SHIMMER AND SHINE along in an attempt to maintain its position. He said at no stage of the race, despite being ridden along, did SHIMMER AND SHINED travel strongly and after coming under heavy pressure rounding the Home Turn the horse gave ground in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of SHIMMER AND SHINE immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained a laceration to the outside of the right hind coronet. Before being allowed to race again, SHIMMER AND SHINE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. THOU SHALL SING and HANDSOME REBEL were sent for sampling.

MASTER BERNINI was withdrawn on 31.3.20 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SUN FOXHUNTER (V Borges). GOOD FIT began only fairly. KEEP WINNING and HAY RUN were crowded for room on jumping between SUN FOXHUNTER and CHARITYDREAM which shifted out. BLINK OF A SECOND began very awkwardly and then lost further ground when checked away from the heels of CHAPARRAL STAR which got its head on the side and shifted out abruptly. After this, from wide barriers, both CHAPARRAL STAR and BLINK OF A SECOND were shifted across behind runners. Also from a wide barrier, THE FULL BLOOM was steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. Approaching the 1200 Metres, HAY RUN was momentarily crowded for room inside HIDDEN SPIRIT which lay in before being directed out to relieve the tightening to HAY RUN. Near the 700 Metres, WINNERS BROTHER and CURLING LUXURY raced tight. Passing the 400 Metres, HAY RUN was awkwardly placed close to the heels of CURLING LUXURY and at the entrance to the Straight was shifted out away from behind that horse to obtain clear running. Throughout the race, SUN FOXHUNTER travelled wide and without cover and consequently finished tailed out. A veterinary inspection of SUN FOXHUNTER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of SUN FOXHUNTER was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SUN FOXHUNTER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. The performance of BLINK OF A SECOND, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, BLINK OF A SECOND will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of BLINK OF A SECOND immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, Z Purton (CURLING LUXURY) stated that he rode his mount positively from a wide barrier in the early stages to take up a forward position. He said CURLING LUXURY did not show sufficient speed to be able to clear a number of runners to its inside and passing the 1400 Metres was left racing very wide. He said for this reason after the 1400 Metres he steadied CURLING LUXURY to obtain cover which resulted in the horse racing further back in the field than had been anticipated. He added whilst he was of the view that CURLING LUXURY not being able to take up a forward position was the principal reason for the horse’s failure to finish off the race, he believed that CURLING LUXURY did not handle the track conditions as it did not seem to travel comfortably throughout the race. A veterinary inspection of CURLING LUXURY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. HIDDEN SPIRIT and KA YING BRILLIANCE were sent for sampling. <2/4/2020 Additional Veterinary Report>SUN FOXHUNTER, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. SUN FOXHUNTER was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer K W Lui this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in right hind leg. As previously advised, SUN FOXHUNTER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.

This resulted in JOYFUL MOMENTS racing at the rear of the field. From a wide barrier, LET’S GO PARTY was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners. Despite being aggressively ridden for a considerable distance in the early stages, STRATHCLYDE failed to muster speed. When being steadied to obtain cover after the 800 Metres, AIOLOS travelled strongly. Making the turn near the 700 Metres, DAILY BEAUTY shifted out and bumped STRATHCLYDE. Approaching the 400 Metres, GOLDIE FLANKER was awkwardly placed close to the heels of AIOLOS when unable to improve between that horse and JOYFUL MOMENTS. Passing the 300 Metres, SOLAR VICTORY, which was giving ground, was steadied away from the heels of SUPREME PATROL (M L Yeung) which got its head on the side and lay out. M L Yeung was reprimanded and advised that in similar circumstances he would be expected to make more of an effort to prevent his mounts from shifting ground than he did on this occasion. After this, SUPREME PATROL continued to lay out under pressure. Approaching the 200 Metres, Apprentice C Wong (VIVA COUNCIL) dropped his whip. After the 200 Metres, EXCEL DELIGHT lay out and shifted ground, requiring its rider to stop riding and straighten his mount. Approaching the 1200 Metres, SMART THINKER lost ground when crowded for room between THIS ONE’S FOR YOU and STAR MAJESTIC (B Shinn) which shifted in before being directed back out. As the Stewards could not be satisfied to the requisite degree that the shift from STAR MAJESTIC was solely to blame for this incident given there was also contact between THIS ONE’S FOR YOU and SMART THINKER, nonetheless B Shinn was severely reprimanded and told that he must ensure that he leaves comfortable racing room for runners to his inside in similar circumstances. Approaching the 700 Metres, LASTING FRIENDSHIP raced tight outside SUPER RED DRAGON which shifted to the outside of ALL FOR ST PAUL’S. Passing the 600 Metres, JADE FORTUNE raced tight between STAR MAJESTIC and THIS ONE’S FOR YOU which attempted to shift out around the heels of CALIFORNIA LEGEND. As the start was effected, FLYING GENIUS lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently was slow to begin. After the race, Z Purton reported that as a result of missing the start, he had to ride FLYING GENIUS along in the early stages to make up lost ground and, in his opinion, the manner in which the horse began was the principal reason for its subsequent failure to finish off the race. PACKING JOY shifted out abruptly at the start, resulting in HIGHLAND FORTUNE being badly crowded for room inside UTOPIA LIFE which resulted in HIGHLAND FORTUNE losing ground and UTOPIA LIFE becoming unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by HIGHLAND FORTUNE. He said he rode his mount along for a considerable distance after this, however, RED ELYSEES was only able to maintain its position and did not improve. He said RED ELYSEES commenced to give ground prior to the Home Turn and then in the early part of the Straight gave ground noticeably. He said due to the manner in which RED ELYSEES was giving ground, he did not persist in riding it out over the concluding stages. He added, based on the manner in which RED ELYSEES came under pressure so far from the finish and the manner in which it gave ground rounding the Home Turn, he was of the opinion that RED ELYSEES was not comfortable on tonight’s surface. A veterinary inspection of RED ELYSEES immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of RED ELYSEES, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.
