Trainer C Fownes was fined $3,000 for presenting SWEETLY BABY in the Parade Ring without a tongue tie, part of that horse’s declared gear. M M JOHNNY (C Schofield), which was fractious in the barriers, put its head down as the start was effected and consequently lost ground. When M M JOHNNY put its head down, C Schofield took his right hand off the reins. C Schofield was advised that whilst the Stewards were cognizant that the horse was fractious and got its head down, nonetheless he was warned against the practice of removing his hand from the reins. Before being allowed to race again, M M JOHNNY will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. When M M JOHNNY began awkwardly, it shifted out and made contact with the hindquarters of STOCK LEGEND which shifted in after being bumped by DECISIVE TWELVE. A veterinary inspection of HEALTHY LUCK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious. DECISIVE TWELVE, TRUST ME and ZERO HEDGE were sent for sampling. <2/3/2020 Additional Veterinary Report>HEALTHY LUCK, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious. HEALTHY LUCK was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer K L Man this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, HEALTHY LUCK will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

From the outside barrier, WINSTON’S LAD was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners. Passing the 1100 Metres, FOREVER SHARP shifted in away from STUNNING IMPACT. Also passing the 1100 Metres, FOREVER SHARP raced tight inside STUNNING IMPACT (N Callan) which shifted in. FOREVER SHARP was then steadied away from the heels of STUNNING IMPACT approaching the 1000 Metres when that horse shifted in when not properly clear. PERFECT PAIR, which was following FOREVER SHARP, was steadied away from the heels of that horse in consequence, resulting in BRIGHT KID being inconvenienced. N Callan was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is properly clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances. At the entrance to the Straight, BULLETPROOF was taken wider by LASTING FRIENDSHIP which was taken out by FOREVER SHARP which made the Home Turn awkwardly and shifted out. Passing the 300 Metres, SPEED FAY FAY got its head on the side and shifted out abruptly away from STUNNING IMPACT, resulting in FOREVER SHARP being hampered and having to shift out away from the heels of SPEED FAY FAY. LASTING FRIENDSHIP, which was racing outside FOREVER SHARP, was shifted out away from that horse, resulting in BULLETPROOF and WINSTON’S LAD being inconvenienced. After the race, Z Purton (PERFECT PAIR) reported that the circumstances of today’s race did not suit his mount. He said after being awkwardly placed behind FOREVER SHARP passing the 1000 Metres, PERFECT PAIR was then not able to improve its position after the 600 Metres as FOREVER SHARP was not taking him forward and at this time he was racing inside LASTING FRIENDSHIP. He said after racing tight outside SPEED FAY FAY near the 500 Metres, he was then disappointed for running outside that horse which improved quickly to be racing inside FOREVER SHARP. He said this resulted in PERFECT PAIR being a lot further back in the field rounding the Home Turn than had been intended. He added in the Straight PERFECT PAIR finished off the race only fairly. A veterinary inspection of PERFECT PAIR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. When questioned, A Badel (SUPER WINNER) stated that he was instructed to lead if possible. He said because of the anticipated moderate pace of the race, it was felt that SUPER WINNER would be able to obtain the lead in the early stages relatively easily and therefore he was asked not to push the horse too aggressively to obtain the lead. He said this was consistent with the manner in which he had been asked to ride the horse previously. He said SUPER WINNER began only fairly and then shortly after the start raced tight between STUNNING IMPACT and LASTING FRIENDSHIP. He said whereas in the past SUPER WINNER had shown early natural speed to take up a forward position, the horse today did not show the same level of speed and did not improve to take up a forward position as it had when ridden by him previously. He said he believed that he would have had to make a lot of use of SUPER WINNER in an endeavour to obtain the lead and therefore he attempted to obtain cover, however, when left racing wide, was able to improve his position when the pace slackened after the 900 Metres. He added however that SUPER WINNER continued to race wide and without cover until after the 600 Metres at which stage he was able to shift across to race one horse off the rail outside the leader GALAXY EMPEROR. A veterinary inspection of SO HAPPY immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, SO HAPPY will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. PERFECT PAIR, AMAZING CHOCOLATE and FAMILY LEADER were sent for sampling.

Passing the 500 Metres, EVEN KEEL was awkwardly placed close to the heels of INFINITY ENDEAVOUR after attempting to improve between that horse and GREAT TREASURE where there was insufficient room. At the entrance to the Straight, GUY DRAGON, which was awkwardly placed behind SNAP FIT, shifted out and made contact with FRESH POWER. FLYING BONUS had some difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 400 Metres. CIRCUIT THREE was held up for clear running until passing the 300 Metres. GIFT OF LIFELINE was badly held up for a run until passing the 300 Metres at which stage the horse improved into tight running between FRESH POWER and GUY DRAGON which got its head on the side and lay out under pressure. After the running of Race 5, the Stewards interviewed Mr T P Yung, the trainer of KA YING LEGEND, regarding advice provided by Dr E N M Ho, the Club’s Head of Racing Laboratory, that a pre-race urine sample taken from KA YING LEGEND earlier today was found to contain the prohibited substance Clenbuterol. The Stewards acceded to a request from Mr Yung to withdraw KA YING LEGEND from this race. Accordingly, KA YING LEGEND was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. A further urine sample was taken from KA YING LEGEND under post-race conditions. The matter was adjourned until a date to be fixed. HAPPY TIME shifted out at the start, resulting in MAGIC SUPREME being crowded for room inside BALTIC SUCCESS. HAPPY ALUMNI began only fairly. GOODLUCK GOODLUCK shifted out on jumping and bumped GOLDEN SPECTRUM. From a wide barrier, MONKEY JEWELLERY was steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. Passing the 1100 Metres, HAPPY ALUMNI got its head up when travelling keenly. After the 900 Metres, FEARLESS FIRE was left racing wide and without cover. SMART COUSIN made the turn near the 900 Metres awkwardly. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in whilst they considered whether INNER FLAME had been afforded a fair start. After viewing the videos and taking evidence from Mr A Speechley, the Starter, it was established that as the start was effected INNER FLAME became very fractious, got its head down and then swung its head to the right, making contact with the side of the barrier stall. As the Stewards were satisfied that INNER FLAME had caused its own issues by becoming fractious and that there had been no external influence in this incident, it was found that INNER FLAME had been afforded a fair start and accordingly was deemed to be a runner. When questioned regarding the performance of INNER FLAME, A Badel stated that whilst INNER FLAME had previously left the barriers satisfactorily, the horse had on occasions proved to be fractious. He said after missing the start today, he was required to ride INNER FLAME back in the field, however, the horse did not travel comfortably at any stage. He said in the Home Straight INNER FLAME lay in and whilst the horse had done this previously, he felt that it lay in worse today than had previously been the case. He said, despite being placed under pressure, INNER FLAME did not respond to his riding at any stage in the Straight and did not finish off the race. He added, in his opinion, the performance of the horse could be attributed to its barrier manners and particularly the fact that it hit its head on leaving the barriers. A veterinary inspection of INNER FLAME immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of INNER FLAME, favourite for today’s race and which finished at the tail of the field after being fractious in the barriers, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, INNER FLAME will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of GOODLUCK GOODLUCK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. INNER FLAME, E STAR and BALTIC SUCCESS were sent for sampling.

On arrival at the Start, Apprentice K H Chan expressed concern regarding the action of ENDEARING. A veterinary examination of ENDEARING did not reveal any significant findings and after the necessary consultations the horse was found to be suitable to race. PRECISE EXPRESS began only fairly and then was crowded for room between AMAZING LUCK and BEAUTY LOYAL which shifted out away from ULTIMATE GLORY. In this incident, AMAZING LUCK became unbalanced and then raced tight inside JOYFUL HEART which shifted in marginally. Near the 1350 Metres, ENDEARING, which was being ridden along, was momentarily eased away from the heels of TOP SCORE (M F Poon) which shifted in when not quite clear. M F Poon was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground. Apprentice K H Chan (ENDEARING) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after being crossed by TOP SCORE in the early stages, when riding his mount along, he permitted ENDEARING to shift in approaching the 1300 Metres when not clear of ZHAN JIANG ROCKS, resulting in that horse being checked and losing the running to which it was rightfully entitled. Apprentice Chan was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 18 March 2020 and to expire on Monday 23 March 2020 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In addition, Apprentice Chan was fined $15,000. Near the 1300 Metres, PICKEN was momentarily steadied away from the heels of GOOD FOR YOU which got its head on the side and shifted in away from TOP SCORE. Despite being ridden along for a considerable distance in the early stages, ENDEARING failed to muster speed and passing the 1200 Metres was momentarily awkwardly placed close to the heels of ULTIMATE GLORY. ENDEARING was then left racing wide and without cover passing the 1100 Metres. When being steadied to obtain cover approaching the 1200 Metres, JOYFUL HEART proved difficult to settle and got its head up for some distance. Near the 650 Metres, PRECISE EXPRESS was steadied away from the heels of MARVEL DRAGON. ZHAN JIANG ROCKS was badly held up for clear running from passing the 350 Metres until near the 200 Metres. Near the 250 Metres, PRECISE EXPRESS, which was closing off the race, was shifted in away from the heels of ZHAN JIANG ROCKS. PRECISE EXPRESS was then held up for clear running after the 100 Metres and approaching the 50 Metres was shifted out away from the heels of BEAUTY LOYAL which was giving ground. Near the 50 Metres, ZHAN JIANG ROCKS was shifted in away from the heels of ULTIMATE GLORY to continue improving. Close to the finishing line, PRECISE EXPRESS raced close to the heels of ULTIMATE GLORY and consequently was not ridden out to the end of the race. Throughout the race, AMAZING LUCK travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the performance of FARHH ABOVE, A Badel stated that after his mount began only fairly, he was able to obtain a position just worse than midfield after racing tight inside ZHAN JIANG ROCKS near the 1300 Metres. He said he was happy with the way that FARHH ABOVE travelled in the middle stages as although the horse raced wide outside ULTIMATE GLORY, FARHH ABOVE had cover at all times behind ENDEARING. He said FARHH ABOVE travelled keenly in the early and middle stages, however, he believed that the horse would still finish off the race in the Straight. He said rounding the Home Turn he shifted FARHH ABOVE to the outside of ENDEARING and he was able to obtain clear running prior to the 400 Metres. He said he became concerned with the manner in which FARHH ABOVE was finishing off the race near the 300 Metres as the horse did not quicken as he had seen the horse doing in the past. He added FARHH ABOVE was particularly disappointing as it did not finish off the race strongly thereafter. He said although FARHH ABOVE was inclined to travel keenly, this was not the reason for the horse’s disappointing performance as it did not quicken at any stage of the race. A veterinary inspection of FARHH ABOVE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of FARHH ABOVE, short-priced favourite for today’s race, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FARHH ABOVE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. L Hewitson reported that PRANCE DRAGON made a significant respiratory noise after the race. A veterinary inspection of PRANCE DRAGON immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its right hind leg. Before being allowed to race again, PRANCE DRAGON will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of ENDEARING and BEAUTY LOYAL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. FARHH ABOVE, TOP SCORE and PICKEN were sent for sampling.

SUPER STAR was tightened for room on jumping between GENEROUS CHARITY and CORDYCEPS. Despite being ridden along for a considerable distance in the early stages, CORDYCEPS was slow to muster speed and consequently travelled wide and without cover throughout the race. After travelling a short distance, GLORIOUS SPECTRUM shifted in, resulting in ASSIMILATE being taken in and becoming awkwardly placed outside the heels of RAGING BLITZKRIEG. ASSIMILATE then got its head on the side and shifted in further towards the heels of MONGOLIAN KING. A short distance after the start, FLASHCARD got its head on the side and was awkwardly placed outside the heels of SUPER WEALTHY. ASSIMILATE had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight. Passing the 400 Metres, SUPER STAR was awkwardly placed outside the heels of RACING FIGHTER. Passing the 250 Metres, SUPER WEALTHY raced tight inside the heels of TAKING AIM which shifted in before being corrected by its rider. After being corrected, TAKING AIM shifted out passing the 200 Metres, resulting in BAND OF BROTHERS being inconvenienced and becoming awkwardly placed close to the heels of DECRYPT near the 150 Metres. BAND OF BROTHERS then had difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 100 Metres. After the race, M F Poon (RACING FIGHTER) said that the horse made an abnormal breathing nose after passing the winning post. A veterinary inspection of RACING FIGHTER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. When questioned regarding the performance of GLORIOUS SPECTRUM, N Callan stated that his mount became badly unbalanced making the first turn which resulted in him having to ride it along. He said GLORIOUS SPECTRUM was reluctant to hold its position between LOBO’S LEGEND and BAND OF BROTHERS despite being ridden along and he was unable to continue to maintain this position. He said he shifted GLORIOUS SPECTRUM to the outside of CORDYCEPS shortly after entering the Straight and placed the horse under pressure, however, its action deteriorated significantly after the 300 Metres and GLORIOUS SPECTRUM then gave ground quickly after the 200 Metres. He added that having regard to the manner in which GLORIOUS SPECTRUM was giving ground, he eased it down over the concluding stages. A veterinary inspection of GLORIOUS SPECTRUM immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious. The performance of GLORIOUS SPECTRUM, which finished at the tail of the field, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, GLORIOUS SPECTRUM will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of CORDYCEPS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. SUPER WEALTHY and DECRYPT were sent for sampling.
