He said when CLASSIC POSH would not improve its position, he was required to ride it aggressively for a considerable distance after the 700 Metres and it was not until approaching the Home Turn that the horse commenced to pick up the bridle and improve into the race. He added after shifting CLASSIC POSH to the outside of runners in the early part of the Straight, the horse then finished off the race well. He said, based on the manner in which the horse raced today, he recommended to connections that they consider stepping CLASSIC POSH up in distance in its future starts. KA YING STAR shifted out at the start and bumped ELUSIVE STATE. ELUSIVE STATE and CITRON SPIRIT were steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. The Stewards inquired into Z Purton’s riding of BEAUTY GENERATION in the early stages with evidence also taken from K Teetan, the rider of KING YING STAR. The Stewards accepted that when being ridden along in the early stages BEAUTY GENERATION got its head on the side and lay out with its head directed in and also at this stage not affecting the running of KA YING STAR. It was further found that after racing relatively truly for a short distance, BEAUTY GENERATION shifted out passing the 1500 Metres and particularly approaching the 1400 Metres. This resulted in KA YING STAR getting its head on the side and shifting out away from BEAUTY GENERATION as that horse continued to shift out. After considering all the evidence, Z Purton was advised that the Stewards had concerns that a more concerted effort was not made to straighten BEAUTY GENERATION near the 1500 Metres to prevent it from shifting out and causing KA YING STAR to shift out wider. Z Purton was severely reprimanded and told that there is an expectation that horses remain racing truly and that riders ensure that they make every endeavour to prevent their mounts from shifting ground and causing interference to other runners. BEAUTY GENERATION, WAIKUKU and KA YING STAR were sent for sampling.

From the outside barriers, RISE HIGH and HO HO KHAN were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. When being steadied to obtain a trailing position passing the 1800 Metres, GLORIOUS FOREVER travelled keenly. Passing the 900 Metres, FURORE raced tight inside DARK DREAM. After passing the 300 Metres, GLORIOUS FOREVER (S de Sousa), which was giving ground, shifted out away from SOUTHERN LEGEND as that horse improved to its inside, resulting in EAGLE WAY, which had been racing tight inside HO HO KHAN, being checked approaching the 200 Metres. S de Sousa was advised that whilst there were some circumstances to this incident, nonetheless in similar situations he would be expected to react quicker than he did on this occasion to his horses shifting ground so as to prevent causing interference to other horses. After this, GLORIOUS FOREVER was eased down. A veterinary inspection of GLORIOUS FOREVER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of GLORIOUS FOREVER, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, GLORIOUS FOREVER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned, J Moreira (DARK DREAM) stated that approaching the 1100 Metres he was racing one horse off the rail outside FURORE. He said near the 1050 Metres DARK DREAM improved to be racing just outside the heels of EXULTANT and when EXULTANT shifted out from behind SOUTHERN LEGEND near the 1000 Metres, this resulted in DARK DREAM being taken into a three wide position without cover. He said he attempted to shift DARK DREAM in to follow EXULTANT one horse off the rail and in doing so caused some crowding to FURORE which had shifted away from the rail to be following EXULTANT. He said after making contact with FURORE and being aware that FURORE had established a position one horse off the rail, he was unable to obtain a trailing position behind EXULTANT. He said making the turn after the 900 Metres FURORE bumped DARK DREAM which resulted in DARK DREAM being placed outside the heels of EXULTANT and as he was aware that that horse may shift out further to the outside of GLORIOUS FOREVER, he elected to ride his mount along in an attempt to improve around EXULTANT so as not to be taken unreasonably wider. He said as he did this EXULTANT shifted to the outside of GLORIOUS FOREVER approaching the 700 Metres which resulted in DARK DREAM being taken into a four wide position without cover. He further stated that DARK DREAM then came under pressure and commenced to give ground after the 600 Metres. The performance of DARK DREAM, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, DARK DREAM will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of TIME WARP immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. EXULTANT and FURORE were sent for sampling.

The Stewards ordered the withdrawal of PINGWU SPARK when it refused to load into the barriers. Mr T P Yung, trainer of PINGWU SPARK, was advised that having regard to PINGWU SPARK’s previous barrier issues, the horse will be required to barrier trial satisfactorily on three consecutive occasions before being permitted to race again. He was further told that should PINGWU SPARK fail in any of those barrier trials or again refuse to load at any time in the future should it pass those barrier trials satisfactorily, the Stewards will consider recommending to the Club’s Board of Stewards for the horse to be compulsorily retired. J Moreira was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. B Shinn reported that after travelling a short distance PAKISTAN STAR pulled up and despite him riding the horse along PAKISTAN STAR refused to gallop and consequently took no part in the race. Mr P O’Sullivan, the trainer of PAKISTAN STAR, was advised that given the horse’s previous record of having not completed the course or being reluctant to hold its position, the Stewards would have to give consideration whether a recommendation should be made to the Club’s Board of Stewards regarding PAKISTAN STAR’s racing future. Mr O’Sullivan undertook to speak to the owner of PAKISTAN STAR to establish whether the owner wishes to make a submission before the Racing Stewards on the matter. A further release will be issued at the appropriate time. The Stewards will question Jockeys Z Purton (REGENCY LEGEND) and N Callan (THANKS FOREVER) regarding the disappointing performances of those horses at the Happy Valley racemeeting to be conducted on Wednesday, 20 November 2019. A veterinary inspection of LITTLE GIANT, REGENCY LEGEND, PREMIERE and THANKS FOREVER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. AETHERO and HOT KING PRAWN were sent for sampling. <20/11/2019 17 November 2019 Sha Tin Racemeeting – Race 8 (177)>a. The Stewards tonight interviewed Z Purton regarding the disappointing performance of REGENCY LEGEND. Z Purton stated that after obtaining a good position near the 1000 Metres, REGENCY LEGEND travelled satisfactorily. He said however that when the field quickened rounding the Home Turn REGENCY LEGEND immediately came under pressure and did not show the same turn of foot that it had in lesser class races previously. He added although REGENCY LEGEND was momentarily tightened for room near the 150 Metres, the horse was already well beaten at this time and had no impact on its finishing position. b. N Callan stated that he was able to obtain a forward position on THANKS FOREVER in the early stages and the horse travelled well. He said THANKS FOREVER initially quickened well rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight, however, near the 250 Metres came under pressure and then gave ground thereafter.

RED DESERT shifted out at the start and bumped AEROHAPPINESS. PERFECT MATCH began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped VOYAGE WARRIOR which was taken in onto BEAUTY AMIGO, causing BEAUTY AMIGO and RAGING STORM to be crowded for room. From the outside barrier, SUNSET WATCH was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. After the 1000 Metres, BEAUTY AMIGO commenced to prove very difficult to settle and was checked away from the heels of RED DESERT which was being steadied to allow VOYAGE WARRIOR to cross. After the 900 Metres, PRANCE DRAGON commenced to travel keenly and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of BIG TIME BABY. Then passing the 800 Metres, PRANCE DRAGON, which continued to be checked away from the heels of BIG TIME BABY, shifted out away from the heels of that horse, causing BEAUTY AMIGO to be checked near the 750 Metres. C Y Ho was advised that due to the racing manners of VOYAGE WARRIOR in the lead up to this incident, he was given the benefit of the doubt as to whether his riding of MR CROISSANT was the principal cause for VOYAGE WARRIOR having to be checked. Nonetheless C Y Ho was severely reprimanded and told that in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mounts so as to prevent them from shifting ground and contributing to interference. Throughout the race, PERFECT MATCH travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of VOYAGE WARRIOR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Near the 700 Metres, EASY GO EASY WIN shifted out away from the heels of RIGHT CHOICE and after this travelled wide and without cover. Passing the 400 Metres, SAVVY SIX raced tight inside ENRICHMENT and was disappointed for running inside that horse which shifted to the inside of CIRCUIT NUMBER TWO which got its head on the side and lay in. After attempting a run inside CIRCUIT NUMBER TWO, ENRICHMENT was then awkwardly placed near the heels of that horse as CIRCUIT NUMBER TWO came under pressure and continued to lay in. This resulted in ENRICHMENT being checked away from the heels of CIRCUIT NUMBER TWO and then being held up for clear running behind that horse until after the 300 Metres. ENRICHMENT again had some difficulty obtaining clear running approaching and passing the 100 Metres. Also passing the 400 Metres, HELENE LEADINGSTAR raced with its head on the side and was awkwardly placed behind CLASSIC BEAUTY. Approaching the 300 Metres, CORDYCEPS raced tight inside the hindquarters of RUTHVEN. After the 200 Metres, RIGHT CHOICE and EASY GO EASY WIN raced tight between HELENE LEADINGSTAR and TIANCHI MONSTER which was taken in by NICCONI EXPRESS (C Schofield). C Schofield was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. The Stewards opened an inquiry into A Sanna’s riding of DANCES WITH DRAGON, particularly rounding the Home Turn and in the Straight. After taking evidence from A Sanna, the Stewards adjourned the inquiry until a date to be fixed. A veterinary inspection of RIGHT CHOICE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. TIANCHI MONSTER, NICCONI EXPRESS and CHEFANO were sent for sampling. <26/11/2019 "DANCES WITH DRAGON" INQUIRY>The Stewards today concluded their inquiry into A Sanna’s riding of DANCES WITH DRAGON in the Victoria Park Handicap which was run at Sha Tin Racecourse on Sunday, 17 November 2019. Further evidence was today taken from Jockey Sanna. Evidence was also taken from Mr L Ho, the trainer of DANCES WITH DRAGON, Mr M W Leung, assistant trainer allocated to Mr Ho’s stable for the current 2019/2020 season, Mr Y C Wong, part-owner of DANCES WITH DRAGON and Mr P C Chan, an associate of Mr Wong who was present in the Parade Ring with Mr Wong when the instructions were given by Mr Leung to Jockey Sanna. Mr Ho was not on course at the relevant time as he was travelling overseas on business. A Sanna was charged with having breached Hong Kong Rule of Racing 99 (2) and (6) in that as the rider of DANCES WITH DRAGON in the stated race, he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout the race to ensure DANCES WITH DRAGON was given a full opportunity to win or to obtain the best possible placing in the field. The particulars of the charge being:- 1. That having regard to his riding instructions to shift DANCES WITH DRAGON to the outside of runners in the Home Straight he failed to shift his horse out to the required extent rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Home Straight to follow TIANCHI MONSTER which resulted in DANCES WITH DRAGON racing towards the inside until after the 400 Metres when it was both reasonable and permissible for him to have shifted DANCES WITH DRAGON out earlier than he did. 2. That after shifting DANCES WITH DRAGON to the outside of the running line of TIANCHI MONSTER approaching the 200 Metres, he did reduce his riding vigour between the 200 Metres until after the 100 Metres when it was both reasonable and permissible for DANCES WITH DRAGON to be fully tested during that part of the race given that there was clear and uninterrupted running for DANCES WITH DRAGON; and passing the 200 Metres he did briefly turn DANCES WITH DRAGON’s head inwards despite there being clear and uninterrupted running directly in front of DANCES WITH DRAGON. 3. That over about the final 100 Metres of the race he did, in the circumstances, fail to ride DANCES WITH DRAGON with sufficient purpose and vigour when it was both reasonable and permissible for DANCES WITH DRAGON to be fully tested all the way to the end of the race. 4. That by riding DANCES WITH DRAGON as he did rounding the Home Turn and in the Home Straight he did fail to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure that DANCES WITH DRAGON was given a full opportunity to win or to obtain the best possible placing in the field. Jockey Sanna pleaded guilty to the charge. After having considered the matter, the Stewards determined that the appropriate penalty was for Jockey Sanna’s licence to ride in races to be suspended for a period to commence on Wednesday. 11 December 2019 and to expire on Monday, 20 January 2020. During that period, there are twelve (12) racemeetings scheduled to be conducted in Hong Kong. The evidence tendered by Mr Ho, Mr Leung, Mr Wong and Mr Chan was accepted.
